  3. I was in Harris Teeter this morning when I happened upon a pretty heated conversation between two older guys in the wine department. They seem to know each other and it didn't take long for me to realize they were "discussing" politics. They were on polar ends of the political spectrum and they weren't agreeing on anything. What got my full attention was when one of the guys screamed out..."well, if you support The Cheeto, we can't be friends". Needless to say...that was profound. All of you know that I despise Trump. I do...and I don't see that changing anytime soon. But I have many friends who love the guy. And I don't see THAT changing anytime soon either. So what this little diatribe is about is this...I'm not gonna dump current friends that happen to love "Trumpy The Ass Clown". I reckon I can pity them...but as far as I'm concerned...we're all still friends. I'm not sure they feel the same way...but I hope they do. Like Ms. Violet said when I told her about what I overheard... "Rufus, we all gotta find a way to get along" I'm not saying 1800 tequila solves everything...but it solves a lot. Stay safe guys.... 11. It's all down the memory hole now but here's the reporting on the sequence of flight closures that I can find about January 31, 2020. 1) Per Forbes, Italy imposed a ban on flights from China on January 31 immediately after a couple from China tested positive. This was before the US. https://www.forbes.com/sites/davekeating/2020/03/12/italy-banned-flights-from-china-before-americait-didnt-work/#605a34f1481b "Italy imposed a ban on flights from China on 31 January, immediately after a Chinese couple in Rome tested positive for the virus. The U.S. began to restrict flights from China four days later. But while Italy enacted a full ban, the U.S. policy was only a restriction, with wide exemptions." 2) Per USA Today, Delta, American, and United all announced they are cancelling flights from mainland China prior to IMPOTUS. https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/2020/01/31/coronavirus-china-flight-ban-delta-cuts-all-flights-white-house/4620989002/ " White House officials said Tuesday they were considering a China travel ban but said then they had not contacted the airlines. Friday's decision by all three domestic carriers to suspend their service all but rendered White House action moot, though the administration did declare the coronavirus to be a public health emergency in the United States late Friday."

  13. It is bro. I swear It is. My county has prepared for Armageddon. You should hear some of these people talk. It’s crazy hysteria. As our EMS Division Chief, I’ve been sitting in on the mitigation process at the highest level here. I disagree with many of the directives that are given to me by the boss man (who doesn’t necessarily think Armageddon is imminent either). But he’s got his marching orders as well from politicians. I look at our call volume and see that it is well within the normal range for EMS responses for this time of year. These stories that hospitals are being overrun with covid 19 cases are simply not true. I was met with every hospital administrator and ER head in the county yesterday. It’s busy, but well within working limits at this point. ICUs are not jam packed. I have over 500 paramedics and EMTs for whose safety I am responsible. Not one...not one...is sick with covid 19. We’ve had 94 confirmed cases of seasonal flu so far in the ranks. We’ve had 62 cases of covid 19 in the county. Although I find it interesting that none others patient’s arrived to the ER via ambulance🤔. I would definitely know that if it were the case. We had our first death a yesterday. And we are supposed “epicenter” as the media is calling it. Nobody is the county heath dept is calling it that. But the media...not so much. Go figure And these clowns wonder why we and many others and others are so skeptical of this thing. I’m on the damn front line and just ain’t seeing it yet. Hopefully it remains that way.

  15. I'm pretty optimistic things will be fairly normal by this summer. From what I'm hearing from friends back in Italy, they expect a return to normalcy by the end of May and they were much harder hit than we have been so far. China lied about their numbers but they're opening up shopping malls and resuming normal life again after about two months and I don't think they'd be doing that if they didn't have a good handle on the virus. I think it'll be much longer before international flights and cross border traffic become the norm again though.

  17. Sorry I missed all the fun in the other thread last night, but I'm going to put this here so we can keep track of it more easily. We now have more data from countries that did and didn't implement travel bans. https://www.thinkglobalhealth.org/article/tracking-coronavirus-countries-and-without-travel-bans "Their travel restrictions have neither stopped the spread of this novel coronavirus nor prevented it from becoming a pandemic. Early research and scenario analysis, however, suggest the combination of the travel restrictions within China and international travel restrictions against China may have delayed the spread of COVID-19, but more so in nations that use that time to reduce community spread of the virus." Here is a list of countries, when and how they implemented travel bans. https://www.thinkglobalhealth.org/article/travel-restrictions-china-due-covid-19 My hot take is about the same as awhile ago. The US wasn't really ahead in the travel ban, and without testing, we squandered our opportunity for containment. (this is not a fact, just a current working theory, I wonder if we will find someone was trying to corner the market in testing, looking at you Jared's brother)

  29. Andy, the restrictions were actually on travelers. The "wide exemptions" effectively covered just US citizens and immediate family. The overwhelming majority of the 3 million Chinese citizens who come here in a year were made verboten. While the order covers the vast majority of the nearly three millions Chinese citizens who visit the United States each year, it is important to note that the order contains several important exemptions to the travel restrictions. The following are categories of foreign nationals who are exempt from the order: Lawful Permanent Residents (i.e. “green card” holders). Spouses of U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents. Parents or legal guardians of U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents (provided the U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident is unmarried and under the age of 21). Siblings of U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents (provided the foreign national sibling is unmarried and under the age of 21). Any foreign national who is a child, foster child, or ward of a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, or who is a prospective adoptee seeking to enter the United States. There are additional exemptions in the order that apply to very limited numbers of foreign nationals, such as members of aircrews or foreign government officials entering the U.S. on state business. There are also exemptions for medical personnel working on containing the coronavirus. The vast majority of foreign nationals who qualify for an exemption will fall into one of the five numbered categories above, You = $2 hooker

  32. Look, I am not all about politics in this situation. It is serious. But the Left keeps using it as a hammer against Trump, and talking about this helping get rid of him. No laying of politics aside by them. The man now has a 60% approval rating on the economy, when the market is down a third and GDP is going down by a quarter. Surreal. And maybe a sign y’all ought to start worrying about being Americans first. Because if your goal is to turn him out of office, you are doing a damn poor job of it.

Before Trump’s inauguration, a warning: ‘The worst influenza pandemic since 1918’ In a tabletop exercise days before an untested new president took power, officials briefed the incoming administration on a scenario remarkably like the one he faces now. “He was never interested in things that might happen. He’s totally focused on the stock market, the economy and always bashing his predecessor and giving him no credit." 41. Majority of Americans now say they approve of Trump's handling of coronavirus: poll The majority of Americans now approve of President Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, a reversal from just one week prior, according to a new Ipsos/ABC News poll. Of those surveyed, 55 percent said that they approved of the president's handling of the situation, while 43 percent said they disapproved. The numbers were basically reversed from one week ago when 54 percent said they disapproved and 43 percent approved. ... Despite the improvement in the approval rating, the public remains strongly partisan. Nearly 70 percent of Democrats still disapprove of how Trump is dealing with the pandemic, while 92 percent of Republicans approve of how he's handled the crisis. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/488597-majority-of-americans-approve-of-trumps-handling-of-coronavirus-poll
