Coach wanted to take the kids to Disney last year. That left them with an open date for 2017 and Garfield was in Texas message boards looking for a game so they made it happen.

Last year they took a Disney Ass whipping from Seminole Ridge 49 - 10 finished (4-8) lost to Marshall 56 -13.  The year before they were (1-9).  They used to be pretty good so hopefully they will be better this year.    They also play in one of the weakest 5A Districts in the State.

Didn't they have some stud QB and win state a while back?

How the hell is Sulphur Springs playing these OOS games?  SS sucks in Beast Texas.

Teams don't have to be national powers to play OOS games.

Looks like Garfield finished the year outside of the Top 50 in the state of Washington.

More of a question might be why there is a thread on this game, rather than why are these teams playing one another.

It's the offseason. I thought it was a random game between 2 states. Can't hurt to try and squeeze these political threads out some. They are turning the board to spam

My question was How not Why.  There is a big difference between the Two.  Do you know where Sulphur Springs is?  If so that would answer the How question.  I will assure you Sulphur Springs would be hard to crack the top 40 in East Texas.  I think it is interesting. I go to a lot of games and Sulphur Springs is only about 65 miles from McKinney.  Give me a chance to see some Washington Football.  It beats the non Stop Trump Threads and the left and right Vitriol.  When you think money S.S. does not come to mind even out in Beast Texas.  Good for them and the kids and they have been decent in the past decade but lately they suck.

Any more news on GA NB? You should check on Benedictine and Valdosta IDK what there schedules look like.

Once International School of Broward finished their schedule no one from Georgia wants to play OOS anymore.

Georgia doesn't do OOS like that. They schedule their games. They are not in the business of playing national games

If they went 4-8, can I presume they made the playoffs with a 3-7 record?

does that happen much in TX?

I went to hs in Seattle

my knowledge of Garfield football is very dated but they were the inner city athlete school in WA back in the day -- have multiple alumni in all the major sports (Trailblazer Brandon Roy might be biggest current name)

I'd call them a poor mans Crenshaw or if you're familiar with NorCal McClymonds

That would be correct. Roughly half of the teams in Tx make the playoffs so 5-5 would be a normal record for the lower teams, but obviously you have some outliers. 4 teams advance from each district and occasionally some district might have only 5 or 6 teams!

SS went 4-7, maxpreps counted a game twice.  They lost in the 1st rd.

2008 when they were a 4A School and went DII (Before 6A emerged)

Tyrik Rollinson was the QB of the squad that outscored everyone (They didn't have the greatest of defenses)

Justin Owen was decent back when they got blasted by Mario Edwards and Denton Ryan on ESPN...But make no mistake...Sulphur Springs isn't (and hasn't) been decent since 2009...

(Sidenote:  Before anyone "reminds me" of 2012 and 2013 (I think) When they won 8 games in both seasons...Note that they were (and Still are) in one of the weaker 5A districts in the state...)

Yeah.

SS was a strong program in the mid 2000's, even won a state championship during that time but they have been horrible for several seasons now.

From what I've seen, not only have they seen a huge drop in talent but they simply don't have many players in the program. I think they suited less than 40 on varsity in 2016 which is pretty damn bad for a 5A school in Texas.
