2017 top 5 in your state

All right, think it would be good at this point to get some opinions on who you think will be the best teams in your state this season. Maybe we could use that to put together an early top 25.

Massachusetts will obviously not figure into that second list, but here's where it stands, anyway.

1. Everett - Reigning Division 1 champs lose a ton on both lines, but there is enough returning at the skills to be the favorites to repeat. WR/CB Mike Sainristil will be a major recruit before all is said and done.

2. Central Catholic - This program won D1 in 2013 and has the talent to do it again. QB Bret Edwards has been starting since he was a sophomore and has a smattering of D1 interest. Four starting OL return.

3. St. John's Prep - Loses a bit from last season but returns enough to be a threat in D1 North. Junior-to-be WR/CB Wes Rockett is the best skill player, and this is a program that typically reloads well up front.

4. BC High - Along with St. John's Prep, the Eagles will be favorites in the Catholic Conference and this should also be the team to beat in D1 South. RB Danny Abraham already has a BC offer.

5. Marshfield - This team had to rebuild nearly its entire starting lineup in 2016 and still had a solid year. The Rams return quite a bit for 2017 and running back/linebacker Jack McNeil leads that group.

GA:

1. Grayson

2.Cartersville

3. Colquitt

4. Rome

5. Buford.

Roswell Downgraded coaches....

Not Buford... Buford just lost Jess Simpson...

Georgias 2017 Top 5...

1. Grayson (I guess, I know they'll still be talented... but losing 20 of 22 starters and half a dozen 4 stars ?... c'mon)

2. Cartersville - its hard for me to do this... bc Cartersville is 4A, and wont have the depth on the lines like the bigger schools... but Joey King has shown he can coach, and he has a 4 year starter at QB and the #1 player in America for the 2018 class in Trevor Lawrence.. and they are 30-0

3. Colquitt Co. - um... chu' know

4. Rome - I actually like your top 4... Rome was hella young last year and they won state... they took it to another level in the playoffs, and if they can stay at that level AND add to it with their experience now... theyll be really good...

5. McEachern - this team isnt going anywhere ... I dont care that Bailey Hockman is gone, hell that may be a good thing

HM: Norcross, Benedictine (yes a friggin 2A team), Carrollton, Westlake, Lowndes, Mill Creek... and everyones favorite  - Valdosta

Going to be a strange year

Reality --- hard for me to say this, but unlike last year where GA had 3 Preseason Top 25 teams.... GA may only have 1 this year. But we'll have quite a few 50-100 teams.... I could be wrong, we could have more, we could have less... its that I simply do not know because A lot of top teams lost a lot of starters and experience from last year.

Westlake may surprise.

They do... but itll take a couple years IMO. I expect Buford to be fine in 2-3 years.

Buford very well could get in some "help" on the field and be top 5.  They are always one of the more talented teams.

Im excited to see Carrollton in Sean Calhouns 2nd year.

Your top 5 is as good as any, my friend. Going to be a difficult year to rank teams in Georgia in the preseason IMO...

I think Desoto was a one and done team. I don't see them making it to the semi's.

Judson...not sure but I expect a week 1 battle against LT. I hope LT shows no mercy and beats them down, but we'll see.

Allen is Allen...a lot of kids suiting up, so they'll have depth and talent on both sides. I expect a run to the semi's, if not the championship.

Katy has to reload, if I'm not wrong. But they'll have one of the best RBs in the state.

Houston Lamar, no idea.

Desoto is not one and done, their program has peaked at high participation levels, over 400 kids.  They will be as talented as this years team.  It is now their time.  I figured if they ever won a title they would roll for a few years...they will roll through D2R1.

lamar is very talented at the top end.  Saw the, last year, they are a good team returning a lot of parts.

Let's see if participation translates to consistency.

What makes you think they are not consistent?  In 2012 and 2013 they reached the simifinals, in 2014 with a ton of injuries they went 10-2 losing to eventual state and national champ Allen 25-22.  Their only bad season was 2015.  They rebounded and won a title.  The anomaly was 2015 not 2016.

Moreover, I mean that I think Desoto will NOT be winning a title in 2017

Lol Cartersville and Rome in the top 5? Good grief. I expect this from PackerPan, but not you. You even honorable mentioned Benedictine ??? wtf Man. This isn't a best record , it's a best team thing.

Cartersville belongs in the top 5, senor.

Rome... Im not as sure. But they were definitely young last year and played pretty strong at years end. I guess its bc they beat Buford, and Buford is always up there. Rome also has a great coach.

There wont be 5 better than Cartersville. Time you start giving them some credit!!

Its hard to say in 7A at this point in the offseason. A lot is up in the air... thats why as of right now, I gave some smaller more proven teams the nod.

P.S. - Benedictine was a sick-nasty-wit-it little team!
