who's the best high school football team in Texas regardless of classification?

Per 2017 can't answer that accurately.  But over the last 15 years. I would go with this arguably of course.

last 15 years and regardless of Class would stack up like this IMHO

1.  Aledo 6 - 0 in Championship games (5A).  Hold record for most pts In season Tx History

2 Gilmer is the winningest Program (4A) School 3 - 1 in Championship games.  2nd to Aledo for most pts in season in Tx

3. Carthage 5 - 0 in Championship games (4A)

4.  Katy 5 - 4 in Championship games (6A) 2nd to Gilmer in Wins.

5: Lake Travis 5 - 1 in State Championship games (6A) Lost to Katy Big

6. Southlake Carroll & Cedar Hill 3 - 1 in games.

how have they done with OOS competition? I'm gonna check em out

Only have played 1 OOS team. I personally don't care for OOS match ups.

They em played Evangel Christian in 08, and LT pounded them so bad that they backed out of the 2009 match (and LT was going to travel to EC that year!)

I keep seeing Judson as one of the preseason favorites. Are they really that loaded? What's going on down in Converse?

They return 15 starters, they were young last year played 8 sophomores and had pretty good success.  Many expect them to be ssolid this season.  Also helps they return a 4 yr starter at QB...Julon Williams, a 3 *** prospect.

the HC/AD at chapel hill resigned to become the DC at Judson.  I've heard god things about the guy so I expec Judson to field a good defense.

Dumbest thing I've read online in a month easy.

1: 46-31 isn't "pounded them so bad".
2: Play that game outside of Texas and it goes differently. After 3 flags for putting whatshisface on his ass, ECA's defense wouldn't go after him. Seriously, I think once they may have sacked him and drew a flag for a late hit. The game was nonsense. I knew it would be that way because UT was all about Gilbert and he was going to be protected, no matter what. And that's exactly what happened.

3. ECA didn't back out of a 2nd game, Lake Travis did. Evangel had them scheduled, as they'd agreed, and Lake Travis backed out because they didn't want to spend the money to come to Shreveport. Which was another something I knew beforehand. I knew that LT was never going to come to Shreveport because they didn't want to leave the safety of CenTex.

So really, I'm okay with Lake Travis beating ECA. I honestly can't say that Evangel would have won, or even should have won, but I can say that had the game been played outside of UT fandom, it would not have been the same game.

And Evangel didn't back out of that game. To suggest such is pretty silly if you know anything about Evangel. They'll go anywhere and play anyone, any time. Even if there's a pretty good chance they're get beat, that's not really a deterrent for them. If you look at their non-district games over the years, you'll easily know that they wont dodge a game against anyone.

In fact, in that same 08 season, the week before the LT game, Evangel took a last minute game against Longview, in Longview. The same Longview that has facerolled ECA time and time again. they went into that game with practically no preparations to play them and did it at their house.  I think Longview beat them 52-22. That was a beat down.

That said, I don't think Evangel's schedule for 2017 is complete yet. Maybe Lake Travis is ready to make the trip to Shreveport and they can settle it on the field.

Do you think over the last 15 years, Aledo and Gilmer would have a winning record against Katy and Lake Travis if they would have played every year?

Not one bit do I think that.  But those smaller schools put out great college football players for their size also. Jonathan Gray for Aledo is one that comes to mine and a few others from Gilmer.  (2) current Boyd brothers  on the Longhorns.

But this is a good look at the players per NFL guys they have put out. The smaller school Gilmer is on par with the bigger schools.   while Aledo has never put a player in the NFL.   This doesn't mean they would beat Katy or Lake Travis by any means.

All time NFL Players by school

North Shore 4  (1) active

Katy 5 (2) active

Gilmer 4 (1) active

Aledo 0

I understand there is great talent at the smaller schools. I just thought you replied to the question of who the best team in Texas is with "for the last 15 years regardless of class."

I misunderstood.

It was 39-12 at the half...LT hadn't even hit their stride at that point on the season.

EC is hardly relevant now anyway. They are nothing but a punching bag for Texas teams.

Had LT gotten EC in late November or December, they would have murdered them.

And no, LT doesn't need to dirty their hands with EC. I'd rather see them travel to play a more formidable team.
