That said 3 preseason transfers accounted for all of STA's points in that game. It's much easier for their defense to come together and I expect that to be the difference in that DeMatha game. STA 21 DeMatha 6 Maybe you weren't impressed by that STA team because they flamed out in the playoffs and they were playing against a State Champion. I wasn't impressed either. If your oos, you should be beating Lousiana state champions by much more than 2 touchdowns

Then I read in here and saw the lack of tune ups for STA and was tempted to go change my pick, then I read this and am back on the fence. LOL. I thought the same thing. Gonna stick with STA at home.

Trending down Cali plus who said STA was number 1 right now? The south contingent is adamant that the west coast is soft. Dematha didn't fair too well in the west last year, now south is pumping Dematha up because it fits their agenda.

STA doesn't have a Thompson Robinson at QB to take over a game that's fairly even. I bet STA stops the run much better than Gorman did against Miami Central though. Dematha is built similarly, so it should be a battle. Who knows STA has a new coordinator (also looks like Dematha does too) so these two teams could be much different than we're used too. That's the excitement of the first game! Who knows?? 1

Then it was 24-0 going into the 4th and JC scores in garbage time. That game was somewhat similar to the STA-Bingham game save a little less drama. 1
954gator
Side note, I still think 2005 Dematha deserved a MNC as much as anyone.

No big deal. Curtis fumbled on the goal line and the 25 which killed any chance they had after long drives. and, I never said Curtis would beat STA after JC lost 10 D1s off their MNC team. Come on, man. St Aug had over 450 yds vs Curtis that year........and, Curtis won the D2 Title, not D1. 1

I probably shouldn't have mentioned you specifically but John Curtis was a hot team back then and there were some that thought they'd win. Also even you must admit STA started that game impressive as hell on D, they were taking names early on. Now their offense and finish was not all that great but I don't think people who just watched that game would say STA wasn't a legit contender either.

STA was the cleaner and better team that day. Curtis still hasn't won a big school state title. Maybe this year.

RedZone
St Aug beat Curtis on ESPN the year STA clubbed Curtis. Big Leonard had over 300 yds total offense. St Aug was stacked in 2013 and would have been a better match up with STA. St Aug should have won state, but we (Rummel) upset St Aug in the semifinals. 1

StAllThewaY
You think that's bad I went to all the Chris Rainey vs Aquinas championships. Inclunding the miracle comeback only to lose in ot by an inch on the final play on a 2 point conversion attempt. This is what I will never forget😵

STA spring game was called off due to Mother Nature and they didn’t play a scrimmage game. Perhaps it’s the experience that placed Casteel there initially. I was hoping Valenti would add a dual threat option. Deep respect to any player at any school in America who is going to Harvard. 1

I believe I saw every game that year including both the victory over Good Counsel for the WCAC championship and also, I believe, a one point loss to Gilman. FWIW I believe the best DeMatha team I have ever seen (and also the best DC area team ever-of any school) was 1998 with Scott McBrien and 20 or more others who received scholarships. DeMatha won the WCAC championship that year by 40 or more points.
BigDrop
Bill McGregor discussing ‘98 football team when it entered DeMatha’s Hall of Fame. Some statistics: In 12 games outscored opponents 497-81. In 12 games scored 336 points in the first half. in two WCAC playoff games outscored opponents 111-13. Only once in the entire season did it trail in a game: 7-6 to Good Counsel and ended up winning 40-7. Was on the back of a Cheerios box!😁 and...Elijah Brooks (De-Matha’s Head Coach now) was a freshman rb in ‘98. 1

Actually the competition outside of MD got substantially easier. California is silky soft and that shit gets exposed on the regular. Number2 Cali team with great coaching gets beat by number 13 FL team with garbage coaching. Cali is trending down I think everyone can agree this year on a neutral site SJB would put a hurting on STA
