RedZone
https://crescentcitysports.com/brother-martin-fined-lhsaa-recruiting-violation/ This state just doesn't put up with a lot of the stuff that happens nationally.
Fred
Would you care to expand on what the cited rules were?
CCBlackhatter
I've always applauded Louisiana and Texas for trying to buck this trend. Free agency will eventually ruin high school football.

Long story short Brother Martin is a member of the NOLA Catholic League (John Curtis, Rummel and etc) and their HC lives in Slidell (suburb, if you will). Slidell has a population of 30,000 with two high schools 5A Slidell and 4A Salmen. "Slidell area schools have reportedly been unhappy with the presence of Brother Martin football coach Mark Bonis, a Slidell resident, at Slidell playground functions. Most notably, Bonis’ presence at the Slidell Youth Football Association camps the past few years has been a source of annoyance to the Slidell schools, who feel the exposure has been a clear form of illegal recruiting by Bonis and Brother Martin. Bonis has spoken at the camp by invitation for the last 4-5 years. Sources confirm to Crescent City Sports that Bonis was not the only head coach to speak over the last several years." I didn't read the article, but this is a little overboard. The LHSAA may have overstepped the line with this ruling. If more information is made available and he was actively recruiting, then I will change my opinion. As of now, I side with the coach. Fred
So now a head coach can't go to an athletic function in the town he lives in for fear of recruiting charges? That's just wrong unless there is something that hasn't be told.

Just the perception of a HC from NOLA at youth football functions in the suburbs probably doesn't look all that great. Even if he lives there. I guess this has been brewing a few years... Doesn't help that the NOLA Catholic League is a high profile league in the state. Louisiana has basically shut the door on transfers, but getting younger studs into your program early as you can has become a big deal. John Curtis has a 4/5th grade team. You get the idea.
