St. John Bosco travelling to D. C. to play St. John's

From a post by Silverbullet on the Baltimore Sun board.  D. C. St. John's (Kevin Plank's alma mater and heavily supported by Under Armour) is playing both SJB and De La Salle this fall.  Silverbullet has a couple of other national bombshells but I'll let him announce these.  Actually, there may be FOUR more national games (all serious) that nobody has mentioned.

Enjoy, Silverbullet!  Everyone will be after you now!

My guess is that UA is subsidizing the trip.  Still, for DC/Baltimore area ball this is going to be an interesting year with DeMatha playing Bishop Gorman and St. John's playing De La Salle and St. John Bosco.  Then, they'll be playing each other.  And, of course, last year Bishop Gorman played St. John Bosco early in the year winning 35-20. SJB, at the end of the year, was a different team.

And, again, there may be even more...

I think he means that DeMatha, SFA and DLS could all be better than SJB. Doubt it, but I think that's the implication.

I apologize to Silverbullet because it is his post @9:02 this evening on the Baltimore Sun high school football board that stoked my interest and comments.  I do not mean to post for him, nor misrepresent him.  I must note that he starts his post by saying "I think" so none of this may be definite.  Having said this,

"I think IMG and SJR come to DC(SJC) this season also. Last year SJC hit the road hard OOS. Another NJ blue blood is playing a MD private, but I don't think that's public knowledge yet. I know the Miami Central squad had a blast when they came up for their DeMatha game. I wouldn't be surprised if American Heritage Plantation(FL) pays DM a return visit next season also."

That'd be some kind of schedule. D.C. Area swinging for the fences trying to claim stake to HSFB capital of the world this year.

Well, another apology to Silverbullet because it is really hard for me not to start anticipating these games.  Again, based on his posts on the Baltimore board (linked above) the SJB game sounds definite while the others sound like they are going to happen but may not be definite yet.

Still, IF they do...

St. John's DC would have a schedule equal to or more challenging than even Bishop Gorman with games against De La Salle, St. John Bosco, IMG, St. Joseph's Regional and DeMatha.  Perhaps DeMatha twice.  Note that DeMatha's team next year could be their best ever.  DeMatha definitely plays Bishop Gorman and, as noted, possibly American Heritage Plantation.  And St. John's (perhaps twice), two of the best teams in Maryland (McDonogh and Franklin) along with Gonzaga and Good Counsel who also play St. John's.

The DeMatha/Bishop Gorman game on 8/25 is on one of the ESPN channels.  I am not certain if any of the other games will be televised.

And, again, forgive me Silverbullet but this is bombshell stuff!

That schedule is BRUTAL.  They may be looking at a 5 loss season but still make their state finals.

There are almost ten million people in the Washington/Baltimore metro area, even more if we go out on a ring 75 miles from halfway between them.  DeMatha and St. John's are ferociously competitive in pulling the best 8th graders out of this area.  I am guessing that with Bob Milloy retiring from Good Counsel, Gilman no longer on a national scale and Virginia and Maryland publics several notches below- Baltimore's St. Frances (whose coach is Bill McGregor the former DeMatha coach of more than 30 years) is the only private competition for them perhaps excepting Gonzaga. Both DeMatha and St. John's have exemplery campuses.  DeMatha typically develops their own players while St. John's has had a significant number of transfers the past two years.

There is also competition for national schedules to satisfy all of the talent that might want to play at either school.

Also, with DeMatha now having won four straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships and, I believe, St. John's has not beaten DeMatha in more than 20 years in football.  It is even more intense than ever before.
