Ranking exercise

Rank the teams you've seen full games of. That does not include games you've only seen parts of, scores you've seen, that sort of thing...

These are the teams I've seen full games of (everything else has been highlights):

Rome-Marietta

Good Counsel-Marietta

DLS-Folsom

Warren Central-Trinity

Here's how I'd rank those teams...

1. De La Salle — Impressed by their defense and, as usual, conditioning and coaching.

2. Good Counsel — Tough call between the Falcons and DLS. Feel like DLS could hold up against the GC run game, and work in enough pops through the air with PA to win a close one.

3. Rome — Love how this team is coached. Offense makes you defend the whole field. I want to see a few other teams in Ga., but I like this team a lot.

4. Folsom — Not as bad as it's getting bashed on here for getting shut out. Feel like this team could be a little more downhill in its running game, though.

5. Marietta — Defense is not great, but will win a lot of shootouts. First two games against strong competition. Might be a year away.

6. Warren Central — Like the offense, but don't like how it was pushed around up front on defense. Overall team speed is not on Marietta's level, imo, which is why WC is one step below, imo.

7. Trinity — Not a bad team, just not what the Shamrocks have been at their best. Still well-coached, solid.

I added them.

I still think Marietta has as much potential as anyone. They have some serious problems to work through right now.

I agree. They don't match up well with a team like Good Counsel.

I'd be curious to see Grayson-Good Counsel. I think Grayson's front seven would force GC out of its comfort zone, but I haven't seen the Rams yet.

If not ranking teams I haven’t seen I’d say

MD

Cen10

Colquitt

DLS

obviously a Cali bias because I haven’t seen much of other teams yet. I saw part of IMG last night and it was like Jeckle and Hyde compared to what they looked like against Columbia. But the teams listed above were still more impressive than IMG IMO.

Good topic but I'll wait until seeing the tv games for this weekend before filling it out

It's a little tricky to follow the rules here, because I had the Colquitt-McEachern game on while I was doing chores in the office and can't say that I watched the whole thing or watched it very closely.

And I stopped paying much attention to the MD-BG after it became clear that MD wasn't going to lose, which, for me, was pretty early in the game. I think it was at 21-0.

With that said, I'd rank 'em as follows.

1. CQ. They looked good everywhere, and I heard Propst say in the pregame interview that he's much happier with the depth of this year's team than he has been with the depth of previous teams. They should get better as their QB develops and when they get some key guys back on defense.

2. Cen10. They looked good rushing the passer and stopping the run. They gave up a lot a lot passing yards, but OLu has a great QB and an excellent receiving corps. Good second-half adjustments on both offense and defense. One of the QBs eventually figured out how to run the read option. And their offense eventually wore OLu out. They will get better as their offense comes together and as the QBs learn how to run it.

3. DLS. Solid defense. The offense struggled. QB made a lot of mistakes. The left side of the O-line was unimpressive. RBs didn't get a lot of yards after contact. But the offense has potential and will likely improve significantly as the QB figures out how to run it and as the O-line get their schemes down and as the RBs focus on running downhill.

4. Folsom. They were able to the move the ball, and they clearly have athletes, but they turned it over  too many times and had some bad breaks on the calls. Looked tougher on D than in past seasons, but I don't think they have as much potential as DLS or Cen10 or CQ.

5. OLu. Their LBs were in Cen10s backfield all night, stopping the run. And their passing game was impressive. But they had no run game at all, and their defense was eventually worn down. And they've got a tough schedule.
