OT: HS track

Schwartz-Cooper 2 this weekend at the Sam Burley invitational (Fr/Sa).   I assume they'll compete in the 100 and 200.

Arman Hall's 200 and 400 event records will likely fall to Tyrese Cooper  (especially in the 400), assuming he competes in them.

Pat Surtain Jr. tore his hammy running track for AHP... so that 40.59 will likely stand as their top time.

Golf we have a big meet here today Skyline Track Classic. But I sat this one out like last week in Desoto the weather is bad.  Windy and rain.  I don't expect good times out of it even though there are some fast teams running.   Thanks for the Fl updates.

Watching the clips of Cooper, you can see that he doesn't have that great of a start for the 100.  I don't think he'll be able to touch Schwartz in the 100 all year.  If I was his coach I would focus on the 200 and 400 and get a few 100's in between to get his speed work.  Then again I don't know what type of chance his school will have for a team title.

Agreed.  He did rip a 10.36 last summer in TX, but that's prime conditions and track.  He's more a 200/400 specialist for sure.

He ran the 300m for the first time the previous week and ran a low 38 (was 13th best at the time in country).  The posts on twitter are funny about it as they appreciated the time with very raw hurdling skills and wonder what he'd do with practice.   He plans to run the 400m at some point which would be cool.

He almost single handily won states for American last year.  He won't break any records at state most likely as he needs endurance/reserves for the max events participation.  Like this past weekend in the 400.  He ran in the 47 sec range to win by half a second.

Cooper hasn't pr'd outdoors yet, which is a little surprising.  He did with the indoors events.  He probably needs a break already.

Jamal Walton's times thus far outdoors have been strong.  He was at STA as a freshman on the football team, but I don't think he's played ball since.  Did you know Arman Hall played football briefly at STA?  #81 WR,  Watch the first play and then watch at 40 seconds (this one shows his athleticism very well).

I remember the talks from the old board about Arman Hall being a football player his freshman year.

I was talking more about Cooper focusing strictly on the 200 and the 400.  Schwarts is a very explosive athlete and he's going to be tough to beat in the 100 this season barring injury.

How do yall feel about jumps.  I feel like the long and triple jumps put too much strain on the knees of athletes who also compete in the sprints.

Yea the weather has been a little crappy here the last few weeks.  Not extreme from a personal perspective, but from a Track perspective it has been with rain and wind.  Desoto got DQ'd at the Skyline meet in the 4x100 and the times were not good.  They look like 2A schools times.

4x100 Relay  Varsity - Finals x

1. 42.86a Bishop Dunne Catholic

2. 43.00a  Dallas Skyline

3. 43.67a Tyler

4. 44.21a Ft Worth Arlington Hts

5. 44.22a  Garland Naaman Forest

6. 45.89a Dallas Adams

7. 46.32a Ft Worth Polytechnic

FS Ft Worth Southwest

 DQ DeSoto

 DNF Ft Worth Western Hills

I don't think we'll see Cooper run another 100 until states (for points).  This was him vs Schwartz mainly as rivals (and Walton).  Cooper got him last year, but Schwartz kicked his butt basically in both 100's thus far.  Would be fun to see what Schwartz 4.34 at the Opening qualifying would have been at the NFL combine (with a much stricter start and the timing mechanism is as good as it gets).

The triple jump would be the one event he should probably avoid imo.  The long jump and any hurdling event I think is fine (but not the 110m).  He also doesn't compete in football, which is good in his case to reduce injury risk.

Schwartz is psyched to run track and play ball at the next level.

Back to indoors for Cooper.  Lol   60/200/400  (has the soph record in 200/400).

http://www.milesplit.com/articles/204258-new-balance-nationals-indoor-heat-sheets-released

Noah Lyles (pro who just graduated from HS last year) ripped an all-time best indoors 300 time of 31.87 this past weekend.  Broke Spearmon's record from 2006.

Man our Program is in good hands with the young guys like Lyles now and Cooper in the future.  But like nptb17 and I had discussion on before.  I am standing fast that Jamaica's domination is about to drop and the team that will be taking over will not be the USA. it will be the youngsters from Japan.  Those kids can flat out fly and they have the best stick game In the relays.  Can't wait to the weather gets a little warmer and calmer here so my Texas kids can show they are up there with their Fl counterparts.  Still wish that Texas and Florida could send kids to run In the Penn Relays.  So tired of Jamaica destroying those East coast kids.  At least they would be pushed by FL and Tx.  Thanks for the track info.  Hopefully I can get out with TexasBall in the coming weeks.

DD, soon enough the TX onslaught will begin.  One nice weekend of weather with wind indicator readings and the top 20 will look like TX and friends.

Looking fwd to Cooper's results.  I think he will break the HS indoor record in the 400 and I'm sure his 200 goal is to run a sub 21.  The 60 intrigues me the most though.  Nptb and I would tell the coach and "smoke" to skip the 60 and rest and rip the 200/400. :). Now watch, he'll pr and win the 60.  Lol.

Glad you brought that kid to the attention of me for sure.  Crazy what that kid did as a Freshman.  My concern is when you are that talented is he topped out and will only have limited improvement or will he become like Michael Johnson and be exceptional at the pro level. Anyway he is fun to follow.  Texas relays less than 30 days.  Can't wait to roll down to Austin on my Bike, have some wonderful BBQ and watch some great Track from HS - Pro's with the old Redskin in tow.  I remember Travon Bromell coming here a few years back and smoking the Texas kids in the 100. Would love to see this kid come and run 400. It is called the Texas Relays and that is what it is known for. Good stuff for sure.
