BigDrop
http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/20/autos/traffic-rush-hour-cities/index.html In another thread I made a comment about driving from the L. A. County courthouse which is east of downtown to Malibu-a trip that "typically" would take perhaps an hour and fifteen minutes. On a visit a year or so ago the traffic was insufferable and I spent the night in a hotel before finishing the drive the next morning. (There is more to the story but this makes a good introduction to below.) Well, Los Angeles does not have the worst traffic in the world. According to a recent study it is only 14th worst during the evening rush hour. The city with the world's worst evening rush hour traffic is Bangkok. Mexico City is second. In fact in the article linked it is noted that over the course of the day and evening Mexico City actually has the worst traffic in the world. I have been to Mexico City. It is truly a nightmarish place to drive. So bad that I actually thought when there that Los Angeles or the D. C. suburbs where I live-are nothing. I remember being in the downtown area and seemingly every major intersection was partially blocked by cars entering from cross streets. I remember small cars actually driving on sidewalks along with scooters, motorcycles, bicycles and, yes, pedestrians. Of note is that seven of the fifteen cities listed are in China which has seen incredible, explosive growth. I also thought it was interesting that Japan did not have a single listing. Interesting: there's not an Indian city listed and the several people I know who have travelled there tell me the traffic was the worse that they had seen anywhere. 954gator
Sao Paulo is really bad. Lol it was a multiple day traffic jam...holy shit!

BigDrop
There is a difference beyond just heavy automobile traffic. When you add endless lines of motorcycles, scooters and bicycles straddling lanes of traffic in lines almost as long as the cars it becomes truly unnerving. Then, trying to change a lane or two or three or eight is a nightmare. It's not just crossing in front of another car or truck but also the various two wheel vehicles between them. http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/20/autos/traffic-rush-hour-cities/index.html is the link to an article about the heavy traffic. Scroll down to the photo of Bangkok where you'll see almost a hundred or more cycles of one kind or another lined up with cars at an intersection. Rufus69
Fernandina Beach is pretty bad. We have Yankees trying to drive down here. We also have a city ordinance that you must leave your grocery cart (once you've unloaded) in an empty parking space...no matter how close the cart rack is. Stop signs are optional and vehicle blinkers are considered a chess match. Oh how I miss South Berlin where there's only (5) tractors. legendsofthefall
Looking at these photos and rankings, thank goodness that NYC put in the best mass transit system in the world more than 100 years ago. Gridlock in the city is still awful but it could've been a helluva lot worse like these other cities who don't have nearly as extensive of a mass transit infrastructure as the big city has. Asia is just one big cluster.
