Bormio
Bad move, MLB. Every once in a while a pitcher would screw up and throw a crip. The game is the game.

Being a guy who goes back and can say he saw the 61 Yankees play and the Met's at the Polo Grounds, obviously I don't like this change

LeftOnBase
I"ve seen a number of games where the pitcher threw wild, on an intentional walk, and the base runners advanced. Some even scoring the winning run. It's part of the game that should be left alone.
maxchoboian
I think it's a fine rule change. Put 'em on base if that's what the intention is. Going through 4 "throws" to the plate is unnecessary in my book. Especially at the Major League level. I'm tired of explaining it to my wife.

Here's 14 seconds saved...bring back the bullpen carts and add nitrous!

Can hit behind the runner, lay down a bunt when needed, and is very good in the clubhouse.

Come on man, think of the team needs. ?

World Citizen
I think it's a good move by MLB. I hate to watch 4 wasted throws. Not worth the occaissional screw up. Although 14.3 seconds is not a big selling point.

We had plays designed for intentional walks on the field or at the plate. Won a few games because of these plays where the pitcher would balk or throw a wild pitch or pick off plays when trying to walk somebody. MLB overthinks too much and I'm starting to wonder how many of the decision makers actually played the game and to what level.
World Citizen
Man you guys are pursuasive. I've changed my mind. Make them throw the 4 pitches, it's part of the game.

Your situations were not at the MLB level, and very rarely happen in those games. There is a good SportsCenter highlight once every 10 years when a Major League pitcher screws up an intentional walk pitch, but I'm willing to miss out on that. I equate it to a football ref assessing off-setting penalties, walking off 15 yards one way and then 15 yards back to the original spot.

Not sure I've ever seen a balk in an intentional walk situation in MLB.
