I guess that depends which teams you're talking about.   For the USA that might be true, but the smaller countries rep hard.

Agree except for the USA all the other countries take it very serious. I enjoy watching it. Still remember the Japan-South Korea final 6-7 years ago as one of the most exciting baseball games I've ever seen! The fans from those countries are incredible!

It's crazy that USA hasn't even come in the top 3 yet.    This might be the year.    At least PR stopped the Japan train in 2013.   It makes you think how decent the Japanese league is.   Japan will have only one mlb player at the classic this year and are still a heavy favorite (just behind USA and the DR).

Not crazy at all. Look at where all the best talent comes from. The world done caught up long ago.

Yes Japan has so many great players that we don't know about. I was amazed the last time Japan won the WBC. SKorea intentionally walked someone to pitch to Ichiro in the bottom of the last inning! Ichiro got the game winning hit!

Yes, but the common thought is that the MLB is the best league right?   Meanwhile Japan won the first two WBCs with very little MLB talent.   Japan's best players seem to care little about getting to the MLB.    I'd be interested in seeing the Japanese league champs play the world series champs.   Would be cool to see.

Here is a list of all the Major (and minor) League players on this years WBC teams.   It's awesome how teams like Cuba and Japan can compete well with little or no MLB players.

Edit:  they are missing a bunch of the MLB players, but it's still a good reference.

We've sent many WS individual teams and All-Star teams to play in Japan. It used to be a regular exhibition.

Plus that's some list of players for the DR in your link!

This is a pretty cool article on a team Puerto Rico fielded in the 1995 winter leagues.  Following the 1994 strike some of the best Puerto Rican players at the time joined up on one team to play in the Caribbean World Series.   The roster was so deep they had to leave out rising Texas Ranger star Ivan "pudge" Rodriguez off the lineup (for Carlos Delgado who was a catcher at the time?)  Anyways pretty cool article.

It's too bad the only videos I found on this team are in Spanish.
