954gator
I played baseball in HS, but am not a huge fan of MLB, but I love me some WBC. What are your thoughts on the tourney? I know most Hardcore MLB fans hate it.

NYHSFAN33
I enjoy it, but with all the restrictions on pitching plus not all the best players participanting it is more exhibition than tournament IMO.

I guess that depends which teams you're talking about. For the USA that might be true, but the smaller countries rep hard.

Still remember the Japan-South Korea final 6-7 years ago as one of the most exciting baseball games I've ever seen! The fans from those countries are incredible!
954gator
Exactly, I have family from Puerto Rico so I always root for them (followed by USA lol). I wish they would have had this type of tournament in the 90s. PR's team would been nasty back then, I mean they're still very good, but...
Canes1975
Cuba baby. Hopefully they make another strong run.
legendsofthefall
I think it's great. I watch less and less MLB games every year (even the Yanks), regular season gets boring and the games seem to go on forever.

Sucks Cuba still won't allow the MLB players on there, but I guess it's good for new players to make their names. They're always good either way.
Cossacks
I really do like the international match ups. I think there is always going to be a concern at the MLB level especially in regards to pitchers and supposed over use or injury.
Cat_Scratch
Love em. Love to see a team from a third world nation rule the day. I like the Little League World Series best though.

954gator
It's crazy that USA hasn't even come in the top 3 yet. This might be the year. At least PR stopped the Japan train in 2013. It makes you think how decent the Japanese league is. Japan will have only one mlb player at the classic this year and are still a heavy favorite (just behind USA and the DR).

The world done caught up long ago.
Cossacks
Is there interest in a fantasy league this year?

I was amazed the last time Japan won the WBC. SKorea intentionally walked someone to pitch to Ichiro in the bottom of the last inning! Ichiro got the game winning hit!

Japan's best players seem to care little about getting to the MLB. I'd be interested in seeing the Japanese league champs play the world series champs. Would be cool to see.
954gator
Here is a list of all the Major (and minor) League players on this years WBC teams. It's awesome how teams like Cuba and Japan can compete well with little or no MLB players. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/2017-world-baseball-classic-rosters-every-mlb-player-and-minor-leaguer-in-the-wbc/ Edit: they are missing a bunch of the MLB players, but it's still a good reference. It used to be a regular exhibition. Plus that's some list of players for the DR in your link!
954gator
Yeah man the DR should be the favorite in all reality. They had severely underperformed in the first two classics, but just killed it in 2013 (went 8-0).

954gator
This is a pretty cool article on a team Puerto Rico fielded in the 1995 winter leagues. Following the 1994 strike some of the best Puerto Rican players at the time joined up on one team to play in the Caribbean World Series. The roster was so deep they had to leave out rising Texas Ranger star Ivan "pudge" Rodriguez off the lineup (for Carlos Delgado who was a catcher at the time?) Anyways pretty cool article. It's too bad the only videos I found on this team are in Spanish. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/12263157/remembering-puerto-rico-1995-caribbean-series-dream-team
old_e
Watching baseball is like watching grass grow or paint dry. Not a big fan of America's boring past time.
