TheMaximumHornetSting
There is a serious House bill up for vote starting tomorrow to rid GA of the GHSA before the FB season starts and I shit you not.... it is actually looking like the GHSA will be shut down... and replaced. This bill was actually pushed by several Gwinnett Schools...
TheMaximumHornetSting
Let me clarify.... The GHSA would be replaced with another Organization.... And different Region schedules...
TheMaximumHornetSting
Let me explain.... Classification will be cut back down to 1A-6A.... Regions will be different. Regions will be based on how teams did the year before basically rather than distance. Itll be based on how teams perform. For example: This means Colquitt Grayson Mceachern Mill Creek Roswell Could be in a region....
ECHS05
A vote to get rid of the GHSA? How does that work?
Nolebull813
So basically they would be the same but with harder schedules. Nooner has got some pull!!
TheMaximumHornetSting
Honestly Idk how well itll go... But the GHSA had this coming.... When they first anounced that there would be a 6A people got bitter.... When they announced 7A.... Everybody got really pissy with the GHSA... The 3% rule made schools like Buford and Carrollton mad.... Then the smaller schools... The Publics complained in 1A about the Private winning to much... So they split them into 1A private and Public. This solved the publics problem but made scheduling harder for 1A privates....

Thats what they did it is in the Georgia Senate as we speak being voted on... It was created and brought to the house by someone at Buford... The GHSA had this coming.... And technically the GHSA is apart of the GA educational system so the state can get rid of them....

HawgGoneIt
I read this as attempting to curb recruiting/transferring by making someone be held accountable and creating an entity that would treat every member school the same. It has long been suggested that the Gwinnett schools were GHSA darlings and a lot of stuff wasn't fairly investigated. I doubt it passes, but wouldn't be surprised if it did, because of the recent developments. There certainly hasn't been any shortage of outcry and complaint about the GHSA and what we all saw transpire at Grayson, not limited to a Kurt Taylor tweet after the season. From what Ive heard the senate is currently60/40 on this.... the GHSA in the past few years has been catching hell...
TheMaximumHornetSting
Heres a projected look at what regions would look like if the proposed bill passes and the GHSA gets terminated... 6A will see new faces... Buford,Carrollton,Rome and Valdosta will return to 6A which would also have Grayson,Mill Creek and Colquitt and the return of Northside WR,Tucker and Stephenson to the top Class And if the regions are determined by the proposed bills law... then teams will be grouped based on Athletic success and school population. I'll go ahead and tell you if this doe happen.... there will be a shit ton of Saturday Games... This is just my take on what it would look like: 6A: Region1: Colquitt-Odd man out.... This falters already.... Back to Back trips to Atlanta? Roswell Grayson Mceachern Mill Creek Region 2: Tift Newton South Gwinnett Rockdale Lovejoy Camden Region 3: Valdosta Lowndes Buford Northside WR Lee County R4: Dalton Harrison Tucker Stephenson South Cobb Westlake Mostly just wishful thinking Realisticly if they did go by that policy... R4 and R1(Simply because of Rush) is the only one I could see working...
ECHS05
You said Buford was unhappy with the 3% rule... obviously bc they had to move up 2 classes (from 3A to 5A, from 2015 to 2016) ... how does this help Buford moving them up even higher if what you suggested in the above post actually happens? Buford has dominated at the lower level since 2000. 11 State Titles since then. I never knew they actually WANTED to stay in the smaller classes. Sounds like a MHSism to me. Technically Bufords enrollment made them 3A in the new 1A-7A reclassification. However Buford is open enrollment... and there was a rule, if 3% or more of your student body was from outside the school district, you had to move up a class. Buford actually had to move up 2 to 5A. (Someone confirm ^ that for me, that is what I remember being the case) Buford has the talent to compete in 7A... thats where they should be. However they are 1-2 vs 7A(6A pre-2016) the past 3 years. A 27-20 win vs McEachern in 2014, a 37-14 loss to McEachern in 2015, and a 24-7 loss to Roswell this past season.

CCBlackhatter
1 hour ago, GloryDays said: This is in the state legislature? Yes. Most important parts of the legislation: A nonprofit organization will oversee all athletics. (The ghsa is for profit) Elgibility requirements will change, which seems to remove the bonafide move requirement, as long as the student can provide their own transportation (similar to FLs new transfer rules). With these changes, it is understandable that this piece of legislation originated in Gwinnett County.
