St. Ignatius (7-2) vs. St. Edward (6-2) - St. Edward 21 Iggy 17

Iggy secured a playoff spot by beating St. X last week 27-20. Both teams had many turnovers but Iggy scored the final 17 points of the game and took the lead with a few minutes left.

St. Edward also secured their playoff spot by beating Moeller 29-22. They turned it over 4 times, and kept the ball mostly on the ground, but were able to score with a little over a minute left in the game to take the lead.

This is the Holy War! Both teams started the season with back to back losses and neither has lost since. Both look ready to make a playoff run.....which is why we may see a very vanilla game from both teams. The last couple of Holy Wars have been very vanilla by both teams. I don't have the slightest clue what will happen in this game. I think Ed's has more weapons.

Winton Woods (8-1) @ Moeller (6-3) - WW 21 Moeller 17

Winton Woods lost a defensive battle in week 1 to Trotwood-Madison. Winton Woods had to replace a lot of very good players from last years team, and hadn't really settled on a QB. They have since found a QB and are playing great defense. They did return a big RB Miyan Williams whom is one of the best RB's in the state.

Moeller had a better game last week against St. Edward. Their offense still didn't play that well. They were able to kick 3 FG's off of Ed's turnovers, and had a big 50 yd TD run, but overall didn't really sustain scoring drives. Moeller's defense did ok, but Ed's gashed them on the ground.

Winton Woods has been getting better as the season has gone on and have really looked good since they've found a QB. Winton Woods is very dangerous if they get a solid lead, because they have a very solid front 7 that they like to turn loose when they have a lead. It really frustrated Elder.....I think this should be a close game, because Moe's defense is good enough, and Winton Woods isn't as flashy as last year. That said, Moe's offense will likely only score 2-3 times, and Winton Woods just has so much more athleticism and speed. I've gotta go with the Woods in this one.

St. Xavier (4-5) vs. St. Xavier KY (7-2) - Bombers 24 Tigers 14

St. X played well last week against Iggy, but came up short. X finds themselves in a must win situation this week. If they lose they will not make the playoffs. If they win, they will most likely  make the playoffs and get the last seed and travel to play Colerain in the first round of the playoffs.

Louisville X lost their first 2 games but have been on a roll since, and knocked off Louisville Male a few weeks ago.

This is usually a close game every year. Because of playoff implications, I expect the Bombers to come out ready to play and get the win.

Fairfield (7-2) vs. Mason (7-2) - Fairfield 42 Mason 14

Fairfield lost to Colerain 55-27, but really put up a good fight at times. Fairfield's RB McClain is the best RB in the state that I've seen. He has the quickest first step I've seen in a long time, hits his holes so fast and hard, and has incredible top speed. The Fairfield OLine also is very good and can get a strong push, which makes it very difficult to stop McClain from picking up at least 5 yards every carry. Fairfield's Defense played very well at times, but ultimately couldn't contain all of Colerain's options, and by the 4th quarter, Colerain had worn them down.

Mason has had a solid season so far only losing to La Salle in week 2 and getting blown out by Colerain a few weeks ago. Mason's offense isn't very good, and their defense is better than average, but not nearly as good as the last few years.

Both teams will make the playoffs. In the past Fairfield has struggled after a big game and dropped a game they shouldn't have. Mason has also given Fairfield tons of trouble recently. Mason has won the last 3 meetings despite Fairfield being the favorite in all of them. I think this game will show if Fairfield is for real. IMO I don't see Mason being able to stop this Fairfield offense. I see Fairfield rolling and getting ready for a playoff run.

Elder (5-4) vs. La Salle (4-4) - Elder 28 La Salle 10

Elder hammered Vianney MO 48-7 last week......La Salle got hammered by Trinity Catholic MO 33-0. Elder is looking at a home playoff game if they can win. La Salle absolutely has to win in order to make the playoffs. These rivals have had many unexpected results over the years, so it can be hard to predict....but La Salle has had no offense all season. La Salle really only had their trio of LB's to keep them in most games, and they've been without their star LB Jared Uran the last 2 weeks. They've been slaughtered the last 2 weeks by St. X and Trinity Catholic. I think Elder will do the same, unless they decide to rest some players.

Massillon (9-0) vs. Canton McKinley (8-1) - Massillon 38 McKinley 27

Massillon will play McKinley in one the best historical rivalries in HSFB. Massillon comes in undefeated with a great offense. McKinley lost their first game to Perry last week. I don't have alot to add to this one. I think Massillon takes this one.

Others:

Colerain has been incredible on defense all season. Their offense is really rolling right now with so many weapons. RB's JJ Davis and Syncere Jones had leg injuries early in the year and weren't used very much. The last 2 weeks they've finally looked healthy and combined the offense has run wild.

Mentor, Solon and Euclid have a nice little triangle of wins between them. Mentor was without QB Kipp the last 2 weeks, but hammered Euclid this week. I think Mentor is a top 25 team with Kipp at QB, and he should be back for the playoffs.

Hoban and TCC will both roll until the semi's of the playoffs. Both teams are giving up basically nothing on defense and scoring by the boatload.

Region 2 and 3......Who knows what to make of all these teams. There doesn't appear to be any standout teams, but tons of really good teams. Most of whom have traded wins with all the other teams. There's Hilliard Davidson, Lancaster, Reynoldsburg, Pick Central, Northmont, Fairmont, Springfield, Miamisburg, Dublin Coffman, Hilliard Bradley, Gahanna Lincoln, Pick North and Wayne. All of these could probably beat any one of the others on any given night.

Nice write up

Agree with all your picks

big games for X and Elder

Eds has lost 3 in a row to Iggy, 2 regular season and one playoff game but this years senior class has beat their counterparts in the frosh & JV years.

Also this game being played at First Energy field (Browns) home field Friday night so big plus for the kids

Haha What's your take on West this year.......good move getting rid of Iceman? Is the  current coach a good fit?

4-6 is about what I expected. I think Wadl has done a decent job given the hand he was dealt, but he's not the guy long term. Assuming they open the job back up after this season, I have to assume there'll be no shortage of qualified applicants.

They don't suck defensively, but the offense is just horrendous. Everyone knows that Afari is getting the ball pretty much every play. Probably could have flirted with 6-4 this year, had all of our QB's not taken a powder LOL.

Obviously the clock will run at the start of the 2nd half tomorrow night. Happy Senior Night!! xD

Well, the weather is going to suck again as it is expected to rain for the 8th Friday in the 10 week season...😠

Hopefully that running clock comes in the second half and everyone can get out of their healthy.  This may not be as big a blowout as others as I can see Coach Bolden pulling his starters real early.  Expect for Afari (1 rushing TD all year?!) to get one and maybe even someone else put one in.  I'm thinking 42-14 final score.

Yea, West's defense ain't terrible. They've had a decent enough season all things considered

I don't see us getting 14, unless Wadl pulls an Iceman and leaves the starters in against Colerain's backups.

Haha was just gonna comment on this. It was always hilarious watching Colerain be up by 42+ pts and put in their 2nd and 3rd strings and Iceman would leave in the starters in and call timeouts with less than a minute to go to score  a couple of TDs late in the game.

with the exception of the shutouts in 2016 and 2007, Lakota West has averaged 21 ppg vs. Colerain during Bolden's tenure.  It would not surprise me at all if West scored 14 points.

Then again....none of those matchups were in week 10, so.... who knows.

So just looking things over for Region 4...........looks like 7 of the 8 spots are taken

Colerain will be #1. Fairfield, Elder, Milford, Mason, Moeller should all get spots.

The winner of Sycamore/Lakota East will make the playoffs and the loser will most likely miss the playoffs.

That leaves the last spot open for St. X, Lebanon, or Western Hills. Western Hills will almost certainly lose to Little Miami, so they are out.

That leaves St. X and Lebanon. If projections play out, St. X will make the playoffs, but it will come down to L2's. St. X's L2's are pretty much in stone, except the La Salle/Elder game. If La Salle wins, X is most assuredly in...........If La Salle loses, then Lebanon would need at least 2 of the following to happen: Loveland over Anderson, West Clermont over Kings, Miamisburg over Northmont, Stebbins over West Carrollton............

The odd case in which all 3 of St. X, Lebanon, and Western Hills Lose........If Sycamore beats Lakota East, then Lakota East will get the last spot..........If Lakota East beats Sycamore, then Lebanon would get the last spot.

Thursday final:

Reynoldsburg 28, Lancaster 7.

The Raiders clinch the 1 seed in what appears to be a very weak R2.  The Columbus area has been a bit of a crap-shoot this year. Reynoldsburg has certainly been the biggest surprise.  HD is having a resurgent season after failing to make the playoffs last year. Pre-season favorite PC is still formidable, but  has shown they are far from a finished product. PN, who some thought might actually be the best in Columbus this year, appears they are likely to miss the playoffs. And oddly enough, they must win tonight against a Gahanna Lincoln team that saw their star QB transfer to PN.

That is a great breakdown Coletrain, but there is one game that you, and many others, don't mention that is HUGE in the seedings...

Milford vs. Turpin

Milford is favored (-6 by Pasteur, -7 Calpreps) but if Turpin can find a way to upset the Eagles, Milford would drop down to the 8th seed and bump St. Xavier up to #7!  It may not seem like much to the outside world, but that puts St. Xavier and Colerain in opposite sides of the bracket meaning they wouldn't see each other until the R4 final and more importantly, would set them up for a 1st round game against...FAIRFIELD!!!

Ohhhh how I would LOVE to see that!

Going to be exciting tonight.  We will have live coverage on the broadcast but unfortunately, we won't get to anything definitive as our game will most likely go running clock meaning we will finish early without finals from other games...☹️
