the best songs for earphones are the ones you enjoy the most.

they are also the best for ear buds and traditional speakers....😋

True.

But some songs like Whole Lotta Love sound great with good ear buds and speakers, but not as good with only speakers.  The panning of the the guittars in the middle of the song can only be appreciated with head phones or ear buds.  Though I might try hold two speakers against my ears to see if I can get the same effect. 😜

I can pretty much grantee that with  a "good" system and speakers many would prefer the speakers.

Trust me, I have several of both that  most would consider... adequate. :)

It's much more important to have quality speaker weather they be in a head phone or speak cabinet.

But I get where you are coming from. It's like a good 5.1 system. The sound whirls around you.

In a way, gimmicky?

Frankly, isn't stereo gimmicky?

I have gone to may concerts in my day in literally every major genre of music and have yet to hear on in stereo. :(

OK, I am getting off subject here but think of the disconnect here... The goal of a live recording is to capture the performance as closely to exact as possible. Yet, engineers set microphones all over the damned place  then mix it all in the studio!

LOL, Why, it does tickle our fancy to hear different sounds coming from different directions or swirl or fad or.... yet live is best and it's really effectively straight at ya sound.

Sorry.

But yeah, Whole Lotta Love is just an awesome song. Sounds great on headphones. I like when the base in my system screws with my heart rhythm though and no headphone has ever done that to me. Even those awfully engineered Beats. (they are the worse, the purposefully alter the sound the artist intended to get a brand sound identification. Awful. If I were an artist I'd request my music not be listened to on Beats. Put that on the cover of the album or something.

Obviously, I could go on... 😁

Steve Miller-- Fly like an Eagle

Thanks,  I appreciate that.

Haven't listened to this great song in years, and it does sound much better with earbuds than just with speakers.   Plus the ending reminds me of a video game.  Great sounding ending.

Sounds to me like you got a pretty good setup. Mine is nothing fancy.  I bought the Logitech Z623 system with the 2 speakers and a subwoofer.  My set up is the speakers on each side of two laptops and the subwoofer on the floor.  I use them mostly for watching movies online or music on Vimeo or Youtube.  Also, plan on using them for gaming in the future.

Too bad that Whole Lotta Love gives you heart palpitations.  The beats don't bother me, unless I put the volume too high.  Then I can feel them.

Live is best, in person that is.  I've downloaded a few live concerts from the net with mixed results.  I tend to like the high quality studio versions better in general.  But that's just me.

I think that canal earphones produce the best sound, but after a while they seem to grate on my eardrums.  Head phones don't seem to produce as a sound but are easier on the ears.  But most of the times, I just listen with just the speakers.
