Nolebull813
Hillsborough and Plant are ancient rivals and some of the oldest teams in the history of Florida High School football. They used to play traditionally on Thanksgiving Day and the games were the biggest event in town in the early days. It's not as fierce as a Lowndes/Valdosta, or Jenks/Union type game, but it is historically significant. It may have lost some luster as Armwood emerged as the top team along with Plant so that rivalry has gotten bigger over the year. This year they were scheduled to play Week 1. But instead both are opting to go to Mobile,AL and play some random OOS teams. My question is would you rather play your top rival, or would you rather go get on a bus for 7 hours and play some random team who is not nationally relevant? Would tne OOS team matter or travel Logistics matter, or would you rather play your rival no matter what??
TheMaximumHornetSting
In this case I take the rival....
TheMaximumHornetSting
Only way Id pick an OOS team from Mobile over Hillsborough is if it was Mcgill-Toolen
TheMaximumHornetSting
Theres a rivalry similar to this here in Savannah. Savannah HS and Benedictine Is one of if not the oldest HS football rivalries in The nation.... Both schools are tied I wanna say 52-52-7 all time with each other. The BlueJackets and the Cadets. Glynn Academy and Benedictine just recently started back playing.... But Savannah and Benedictine Havent played since 2010. Re alignment really f**ked up the rivalry. It used to be an amazing rivalry but then ya know.... Savannah decided that they needed 13 effin HS's.... If they closed 5 at the least Savannah HS. Would be back to there prior Glory. Benedictine has actually gotten better....
TheMaximumHornetSting
Did the FHSAA screw up the Plant Rivalry too? And correction its 47-45-5.... but i had the last meet year right....
Ararar
Seems like not that big of a rivalry if they don't want to play each other

Idk what all the circumstances are, but maybe it's better for them to play some other teams. OOS gives the kids a chance to taste first hand the rigors of travel and preparation away from home, and possibly helps develop them better for college than that of the old rivalry that has lost it's luster.

Theyre in Tampa... On a friday they could go to Orlando and get the rigors of travel.... That friday afternoon traffic in Orlando is no joke....

Thanksgiving vs BC was the best.....I would not pass up a game vs. BC for ANY OOS matchup

I don't think there's any doubt...you gotta take the OOS game with a non-bordering state in order to boost your National Board rankings. Duh !!!!! Coletrain06
Colerain is in that situation currently. Colerain in general has had a pretty intense rivalry with all of the GCL over the last 20+ years.....(not much with Moeller individually...... Very heated rivalry with Elder in the early 2000's.) La Salle being the biggest hated rival because they are the Private school right in Colerain. Kids grow up next to each other, and often go to the same elementary and middle schools. However, St. X and Colerain also have a pretty intense rivalry because St. X is also close to Colerain (~10min) and alot of the kids also grow up together. Both coaches are good friends. This rivalry is far better in quality, and is one of mutual respect.....with both teams playing each other 18 times since 2005 and a majority of games ending on the last play....3 of last 4 games going to OT. It's turned into one of the best rivalries in the country. Anyway, Colerain's 10 team league (GMC) decided to go from 7 league games to 8 league games this season.....Thus only leaving 2 open weeks. Colerain's playing both rivals in those 2 weeks. Colerain usually looked for an OOS opponent in week 1 as part of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown, but they will be playing La Salle as part of the event this year.
