Adam Kurkjian
Three Massachusetts prospects I'd like to get your opinions on. Who do you like the best, ceiling for each guy, etc. All three expected to be FBS guys. Only one has offers though. And yes, quality of competition factors in. Quinn Murphy, OL, Duxbury HS (no offers yet), Class of 2019 Mike Sainristil, WR/CB, Everett HS (no offers yet), Class of 2019 Kevin Pyne, OL, Millis-Hopedale, (offers from Florida State, Michigan, BC, and a few more), Class of 2020

I think Sainristil would be best at CB on the next level. Pyne and Murphy are similar, but I like Pyne's aggressiveness a bit more. It's tough for me to gauge their ceiling without seeing them play against players with similar talent. For instance, I'd like to see Sainristil head up against a top WR. I don't even care if he gets fried a few times. I'd just like to see how he reacts. The same goes with the OL's. I'd need to see the footwork against a FBS level athletic DE. Best... 1.)WR/CB Sainristil 2.)OL Pyne 3.)OL Murphy

This is the drawback in Mass. for kids like these as opposed to a power state. They simply don't get that chance until they get to college (for the most part). That's why, a lot of times, even the best prospects from here redshirt before getting major PT. I think all three will end up getting FBS offers. I am a bit surprised, to be honest, that Sainristil and Murphy don't have any from the local schools like UMass, BC, or some of the FCS programs. UMass, in particular, should be all over both. UMD, with Edsall, was under the impression that the power states in the south took priority over local talent in recruiting. While that theory sounds safe, the top kids from DeMatha, Good Counsel, Gilman, etc... ended up going to the top SEC schools because they felt zero loyalty from UMD's late and lazy offer. Plank(Under Armour) had enough of that nonsense and thus the DMV to UMD movement was started. DeMatha has sent 8 kids to UMD in the last two years. Two of them(McFarland and Davis) could of went to any FBS school that they wanted. Another was on pace to be the B1G freshman of the year before he messed around with an airsoft gun. UMass and BC should of offered Sainristil this spring. No offense, but you don't see that type of DB talent up there much.

Murphy looks like he is good simply because he is bigger than everyone else. Comparing Murphy and Pyne, Pyne looks to have the greater upside. He hasn't quite filled into his body as much as Murphy, he looks more athletic and he has better technique off the line (i.e., he gets lower than Murphy and uses his hands better). Murphy is a not quick, but once he gets going, he seems to show off a bit more of the athleticism that comes with playing three sports. I haven't watched the sainristill clip yet.

I think in general, any program should prioritize locking up the local talent. That's your base, and when all else fails, you need something to fall back on. Totally agree on Sainristil, as well. The crazy thing is that BC has done an excellent job in Everett over the years, particularly with DBs. This kid is further along at this stage than any of them.
