Seriously.......Do you people really think that they are a top 15 team nationally ??? They had a 34-28 lead late in the game against WM....who was missing their starting RB Jamir Thomas. The refs also blew a call late in the game when WM intercepted a pass and had it overturned on a phantom call. How many of you have actually seen Hoban on film ? Did you see some of the teams that Hoban beat during the year ? Most of them were really average. When they finally played a team with a pulse....WM...they were pretty close to blowing a big lead and losing. It`s a mystery to me that Ohio get`s so much benefit of the doubt. They aren`t close to being as strong state-wide as they were 8-10 years ago......but most of the polls and posters won`t accept it. I would like to see Hoban play STA......Allen...etc....teams that are ranked behind them in the polls....it would be ugly........

I’ve seen Hoban on video and I agree with you.  IMO they’re good, but not top 15 good.

ABH beat St.Ignatius in the first game of the season...21-14. I think St.Ed`s was quite good at the end of the year....but how do you think ABH and St.Ed`s would have fared against the WCAC teams week after week....In the Ohio thread there was a discussion about MD playing Ohio teams and a poster said that Colerain was a lot faster that DLS...??? Really !!! Does any poster think that any Ohio team could have played MD to a 35-21 game ??? It would be more like 56-14. ABH has won 4 straight championships against fairly weak competition.

From what I've seen from the various WCAC teams that have come to play in Ohio over the years, I think ABH and Ed's would have fared well.  Unbeaten, certainly not. The WCAC is a very good conference, and this year was especially good. But I don't see that conference as any more difficult than the GCL in most years, and Ed's fares quite well against those teams. I have lots of family out in the DMV, and every time a WCAC team was coming out to Ohio I'd hear how we're about to get smoked. We're not ready for the speed and athletes...blah blah blah. And then the game happens. The only team I can remember coming out here and winning was a Good Counsel team featuring Stefon Diggs, who played like a man possessed.

I'm certainly open to arguments that ABH is not a top 15 team. I'm not even convinced they would have beat Ed's should the two have squared off in the playoffs. But this was a very good ABH team with plenty of next level talent.

I've been wondering the same thing.

I want to reiterate that i have a lot of respect for Ohio football. I have cousins that live in the Cleveland area. In 2008 i went to visit them and I saw St.Ignatius play.....and i was really impressed. Extremely well-coached...big.....physical....a lot of College level talent. My point is that Ohio overall is not as good as they once were. Long-time powers like Glenville.....Centerville....Huber Hts Wayne....Lakota West...etc are shadows of what they once were. Even the GCCL is not as strong as it was 10 years ago. I saw the game in person last year between Naperville Central and St.Ed`s. NC was faster and really should have won the game.......Ed`s big off line wore down NC on the last TD drive after the blocked punt recovery.......Kudo`s to St.Ed`s for winning on the road. I sat on the Ed`s side and they were really shocked that the game was so competitive. i asked some Ed`s fans about Ohio football and they were the one`s who admitted that it isn`t as strong as it used to be. I haven`t mentioned Illinois football in this post....but i do believe that from top to bottom Illinois is just as good and maybe even better in the smaller classes.

Has ABH ever played OOS ? It would be awesome to have them play Montini Catholic or Nazarath Academy or one of the Chicago Catholic blue teams in a home and home.

When has Lakota West a power in Ohio?  When has Centerville been a power in Ohio?  I will throw you a bone with Glenville and Huber Heights Wayne but I didn't know all of Ohio depended on those two teams.  I know you don't know what you are talking about because you just called Centerville and Lakota West long time powers.

Well....I got that info from your Ohio newscasters and the Yappi forum posters. Take it up with them if you think it`s incorrect.  Zulu 1128......that`s an opinion.......state some facts to prove your comment. I am basing my comments on actual statements and games between Ohio and Illinois teams.

Even Wayne was never a long time power. They had a great class come through plus a few key transfers for a few years.. but outside of that, they have always been a good team, but never a consistent title contender

The "phantom INT" call was halfway through the first quarter, not late in the game. It had zero effect on the outcome. Hoban was up 34-7 at the half, and simply took the 3rd quarter off, as HS kids are apt to do when the game is basically over. The outcome was never in doubt to anyone who was actually watching the game. The statement "they were pretty close to blowing a big lead and losing" simply isn't very accurate.

Also, not sure why you felt the need for the "did you see some of the teams they played...they were average," line. Every team in the country has some slapdicks on the schedule. Hoban did what you're supposed to do....they beat the shit out of all of them.

Maybe the title of your thread should be something like "Why are Illinois and Michigan screwed in the national rankings"?  Your issue shouldn't be why Ohio is over ranked, but why does the Midwest always get the shaft by pollsters who never watch their games.

If I was ranking the top 50, I would put in at least 2 Illinois teams in.  And at least one Michigan team in.  Even OmahaVol didn't put in an Illinois team in his poll I believe.
