golfaddict1
http://calpreps.com/2016/ratings/National_states.htm Ned Freeman's scaled guesstimate. They don't change much if at all in rankings annually. This is an avg of top 50 per state, so the larger states clearly have an edge.
Coletrain06
It depends on how we look at it. I think most would agree the top 5 is usually Texas, Florida, Cali, Ohio, Georgia. The order depends on year. After those states it would depend if we look at top teams or the state overall. If it's just top teams then you would have to include states like New Jersey and Indiana. Otherwise there's too many to cut down to a definitive top 10.

Yea it has to be tweaked because top 50 is too much. I'd like to see a top 10 ratings list of states as you'd see more OOS games as a factor as well as likely seeing the best schedules in the state having a rating presence. Teams we discuss on the forum mostly would be targeted in this top 10, except for the 5 power states with clearly more depth than the rest by a good margin.

ECHS05
1a. Florida (Top teams & Depth) 1b. Texas (Top teams & Depth) 3. California (Lack the depth of FL & TX but have great top teams) 4. Georgia (Smaller version of FL but more like TX bc more publics) 5. Ohio (Kinda like a mini-CA... some good top Privates) 6. Illinois (this state DOESNT get enough credit) 7. Louisiana (decent depth, decent top teams) 8. Alabama (has just a couple top teams, but good depth) 9. New Jersey (good top teams, but depth keeps it at 9) 10. Pennsylvania (was good years ago, then fell off, seems to be on the rise again) Others that just missed: Mississippi, Tennessee, Michigan, Arizona Honestly ... 6-14 can really be in just about any order.
TheRealCAJ
Since 1990 Louisiana has won a piece of a MNC 4 times with 4 different teams. Doesn't matter if you agree or not. It's on the books. Illinois just doesn't have the depth of teams. Easy to prove. Probably an underrated state though as a whole.
ECHS05
I was thinking more 2014-2016... the last 3 years... kinda combined. Maybe IL isnt #6... but they are underrated. They do have depth, what actually kills them is the lack of top teams. Loyola Academy has been good but who else? ESL last year. I mean those arent TOP teams themselves.. but pretty darn good.

Well Louisiana is in every list so far so they will likely make the final top 10 so that will help them in my upcoming project

Columbiafan
I think we see common trend of Texas Cali and Florida as top 3 and Ohio and Gerogia as 4 and 5 and Louisiana in top 10 somewhere so 4 more openings up for grabs

Agreed but not too hyped on Bama... kind of charmin like overall similar to NC and SC imo (recently) at the top end. Not sure they belong in a top 10 of late.
ECHS05
Indiana is a state with a solid core of 5-6 teams, then 4-5 more that are decent... probably should be in the 8-10 range oveall. Ive really liked Center Grove & Warren Central the past couple years. Ben Davis also.
