West Monroe vs Catholic (BR) 1996

One of the best teams NOT to win state in Louisiana.The Catholic-Baton Rouge Bears. That team had 21 players sign college scholarships. Too many to list.

West Monroe was led by FB Tommy Banks (LSU) and had 4-5 sign with LSU off that 1996 team..

West Monroe Rebels 21 vs Catholic (BR) Bears 14 1996 LHSAA semifinal playoffs Catholic was #1 in the State and #10 in the nation with Major Applewhite and Travis Minor.

Nope, not in 96'.

That was probably Major Applewhite's worst game that season. Travis Minor showed his stuff.

Just too much FB Tommy Banks. Catholic had NO answer.

Banks claim to fame at LSU was scoring a TD when we upset #1 Florida in 97'. He was used mostly as blocker his 4 years, but did catch some ball out of the backfield.

Tommy Banks was a stud...  started all 4 years at West Monroe and was never tackled for a loss...  just keep feeding him the ball and move the chains

he was also a stud off the field, graduated 4.0 from WM, on to LSU Medical School, now Dr Banks has a successful practice back in his home town

he did... unfortunately best known for the failed 2 pt conversion attempt vs Evangel in the State Title game.

But what most folks don't know is Tommy Banks' son is about to come through West Monroe  😁
