The hitch is that they actually do have at least 2 of the top 10 teams in the country. This creates the anomaly where all the closely connected teams s.o.s. is stout enough that they are also elevated in the algorithm just as Cal Preps prefers it.  This gives the impression there is a bias.

I don't really think there is a way to solve that issue in the algorithms. The heavily weighted strength of schedule reward is where the issue is I think. At least my vommon sense tells me that's the case.

It’s not a problem that needs solving

give it time and relax

DLS is normally lower at CP than national polls by end of regular season but zoom

up if they can win the Open and beat socal’s Best

that’s an advantage to have that opportunity at end of season (if you can win whichnhas become a huge if), but it’s for beating really good teams

if you want to change something, change all the human pills that could have voted for Hohn Curtis #1 in 2012 or South Panola in 2010 or any other team that gets touted because of their recruits and not their play

It's an advantage for message board types like yourself who like to manipulate.

It's a flaw for those who actually want to see a good algorithm.

  • dntn31 changed the title to 2019 Comp Poll (Updated 09-09-2019)

One would think that, but then we see Marietta at 92 and they're playing JSerra.

Idk. This Cal Preps thing is pretty much garbage. I used to have hopes for it to be better or get better. Instead they keep fooling with it as "they prefer".

They have Colquitt at 105 but in the same breath say that the Colquitt schedule is 25th toughest in the country while expecting them to only lose one game and also projecting a league finish of first place.

I like to clown around about it and all, but, for real... This thing is a mess.

SCHEDULE
2019 Schedule: 8/24 at North Gwinnett (Suwanee), 9/6 Thomasville, 9/13 at Valdosta, 9/20 Warner Robins, 9/27 Grayson (Loganville), 10/4 Alcovy (Covington), 10/11 Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, FL), 10/18 at Camden County (Kingsland), 10/25 Tift County (Tifton), 11/1 at Lowndes (Valdosta)
Highest-Rated 2019 Regular Season Opponents:Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, FL) (55.7), Lowndes (Valdosta) (53.6), North Gwinnett (Suwanee) (52.8)
Lowest-Rated 2019 Regular Season Opponents:Alcovy (Covington) (-26.6), Thomasville (23.6), Tift County (Tifton) (25.9)
2018 Regular Season Schedule Strength: 48.6 (46.8 overall)
2019 Regular Season Schedule Strength: 35.4
2019 vs. 2018 Schedule Strength Comparison: -13.2
2019 Regular Season Schedule Strength State Rank:#1
2019 Regular Season Schedule Strength National Rank: #25
2019 Projected Regular Season Record: 9-1
2019 Projected League Finish: 1st
2019 Undefeated Regular Season Probability: 38%

I suppose the projected loss would be to Trinity Christian at this point.

...and they still have Rush Propst listed as head coach.

I think Calpreps uses Googles algorithms, you know the ones they use for political polls.

You are absolutely correct about CP and their ranking. It's like the damn "stock market" at times.

Is a good thing

human pills will just set teams in a preseason I reset and only adjust for Ws and Ls

teams are going to change order every week when there almost 15,000 teams putting up 9-16 results

It’s wrong if they don’t

and fwiw, my team is ranked by all the humans and none of the computers at the moment

Am glad Cathedral getting their due after being orphaned by socal guys

am not sure they’re #3 in CA, but right now they’ve earned it more than any of the other candidates

I would expect the winner of the DLS/Folsom game to leapfrog Cathedral in next week's comp poll.

i have no idea what you're saying.  Born in The Bronx, and livin' in NJ explains it, I guess.  But BC better not be anywhere near the top 50 when Joes is put 30-40  That's just crazy.

USA Today has Highland Springs, VA and Southern Columbia, PA ranked ahead of DeMatha in their regional rankings.  Of course DeMatha is not ranked in USA Today’s top 25.  The only one of seven polls excluding DeMatha.

Who is Southern Columbia?  Who is Highland Springs?  Never mind that DeMatha is about 150-6 in their last four games.  USA Today believes Southern Columbia is better! Better!

That’s credibility.  Love to hear someone explain this.

Thanks whoever USA Today hired to do this.  I’ll drive by your building in Tyson’s tomorrow and laugh.

@dntn31 Iggy lost to a team from Canada. How can they be included?

You'd have to ask Ken Massey. Looking at his site, the game against Clarkson isn't listed, so I'm guessing that's just a flaw with his algorithm - that it's constrained to only consider data points between two US teams.

CalPreps seems to have a similar limitation. They at least have the game listed, but Iggy is still sitting at #32, so it appears that game had minimal impact, if any at all.
