Youthbuild won 22-14 last night. Going for two wins in under 48 hours tomorrow afternoon. If Hedgesville WV hadn't cancelled their game tonight back when they were still called Bishop Sycamore they could have played three days in a row. Instead Hedgesville lost 64-6 to Fort Hill MD. Bet they wish they had played the adult team now.

 Hedgeville got what they deserved.

Youth build had 19-year-olds on their team and that was it.  It is not uncommon for regular teams to have that every now and then.

And from their results HedgeHog High would have got a better game from the team formerly named Bishop Sycamore!!

CHS won 29-16. The game was no different than most HS football games. A little trash talking at halftime walking to the locker rooms but that was it. We had a player get injured on the opposing side of the field and their coaches were checking on him before the play was even over. The players took a knee and showed a ton of respect while he was wheeled to the ambulance. Not a dirty play just to clarify.

I also spoke to quite a few of their players and they were appreciative of the opportunity to play us and were extremely respectful. If these coaches are giving these boys an opportunity to travel and play football then let them do it. Calling it sketch or trashing what they are doing is wrong and is not what these kids need to hear. One of these boys had been on his own since 13!! The opportunity he has to play the sport he loves and get a diploma was not possible otherwise.

Whether these players are underprivileged, have made a mistake or may not sit in the same building shouldn’t be a reason to discount them, cancel games or get on some forum like this and take away from what is being done for these boys that may help them in life is childish.

Everyone has a story and although this may be different than the norm, support what the intention is and the opportunity it may create for a kid who deserves it.

Thank you sir for your insight... to be constantly criticized and ridiculed for something can be very disheartening.   But we still press on inspite of that... words of folks that can't or don't want to see your vision won't stop us... it actual encourages us.   So many people have given up on these young men... talked about them... tried to tear them down instead of building them... taken from them without pouring anything back in.   I truly believe that greater things are things are in store for this program and these young men... whether you believe it or not....

Yes 19 is allowed in texas just aslong as you Turn 19 after the first Practice. If you turn 19 before the first official practice starts you cant play im sure in other states too so there is nothing sketchy about that.

To read some of these comments is sad, extremely sad.

I spoke to some of the players and they were extremely respectful and appreciative of the opportunity to play and finish school.

They played really hard and played a great game.

Watching the coaches run on to the field during the play to help one of our players definitely shows how much they care about student athletes.

I wish more people would take the time to see all of the good that this program does instead of bad mouthing them.

Good luck to them and their many many many years to come!

See you guys next year!

By all means, create an opportunity.

Still, the adults in the situation have to be responsible and meet all of the criteria expected in order to play teams in other states. Once contracted, they must be obligated to the terms and receptive of calls from organizers.

Simple stuff.

You can flip it however you want. Nobody is downing the kids. The adults need get their stuff in order... for the kids. Period.

Seems like they are trying. I'm sure they are probably good people with good intentions.

They need to be realistic in their goals, finances and where they are travelling to. They must do that for the kids. They must. They're responsible for them. They are also responsible for the negative feedback due to lack of planning or whatever other "sketchy" stuff they've had go on and we have all followed.

Period.

Good luck to you all.

It has been an honor to watch you guys week in and week out show up to games!

It has been amazing to watch you guys get games after schools sign contracts and then cancel.

Do not focus on all the negativity that is out there! Stay encouraged and stay hopeful.

Can’t wait to hear about the bowl games you guys are playing in!!!!!!

Giving them an opportunity would entail giving them an education and a diploma that's worth a shit.

This outfit is basically a scheme to allow street agents/wannabe coaches to feed their ego and sell a bill of goods to some at-risk kids.

It's played out exactly like most of us thought it would. An embarrassing season of cancellations, bus breakdowns and evictions.

7 cancellations and they managed to still play 10 games!!!!!!

Over 179,000 students!!!!!

Having a diploma is way better than not having one.

Keep Loving Them!!!!!!!!!!

Not if the diploma amounts to a giant pile of dog shit.

Let's see one of these kids enroll in a reputable University with their "diploma."

Thank God you aren’t on any of the colleges admission committees....Youthbuild offers joint course work with Columbus State where students can earn credit from Columbus State...so if that’s dog crap so be it...love to you guru!!!!

These kids can go to a real school and get a real diploma that gets them into schools like Columbus State.

They don't need to go to a fake school that changes their name every other week to do that.

They do need it! They have a plethora of reasons on why traditional schooling has not worked. Vocational schooling is a great opportunity for them.

I think you’re missing the point the dog crap diploma/school/curriculum has a college credit plus option. This would mean that the diploma is worth something.

Where’s the love?!?!?!?!

Now that Roy Johnson and Jay Richardson got their huge out-of-court settlement from the African Methodist Episcopal Church and will be paying back all the debts of the coaches and parents who stepped up, it's time to start scheduling.  I hear they are targeting the Chicagoland area for recruitment and opponents.  The schedule could look like this: Lincoln Way East, East St. Louis, Maine South, and Loyola, plus IMG, SFA, STA, and Ed's.

What settlement?  Link?

Sorry, I was just kidding, thought I had deleted that post.  I assumed this shit show was over and done with but the sad thing is they are still telling players that they will have a season next year, even though there is still no school, never was one.  There's no settlement, quite the contrary.  These deadbeats owe a lot of people a lot of money.  Mid six figures probably.

What the kids need to know, and maybe some of the delusional parents too, is that in Ohio and other states, the OHSAA rule is that students have four consecutive years of athletic eligibility once they start 9th grade, whether they participate or not.  There is no "redshirting" or "reclassifying" allowed.  If a student takes five years to complete high school so be it, but they cannot participate in sports in the fifth year.

And to prevent any other con artists from trying this scam again, OHSAA has instituted a new regulation.  Beginning in 2022, only contests played against NFHS Member State Association schools or Affiliate Association schools will count towards the Harbin Ratings.

@Severino

If they aren’t a part of OHSAA then the 4 year rule  wouldn’t apply correct?

Which is why Western Reserve, Wyoming seminary, Kiski, Canada etc have 5th year athletes.

These schools have played Ohio High Schools for years.

As far as points I don’t think those schools ever counted towards the playoff points am I correct?

Except Canadian schools I believe.

~PEACE be with you~

Except for WRA those schools are members of athletic associations (PIAA, PAIAA, OFSAA) so games against them will continue to count in the OHSAA rankings as they have in the past.  No OHSAA member school will ever schedule games against a non-member Ohio team because they will just be scrimmages that don't count.  Considering there are no non-member schools in Ohio that are competitive in football, Columbus is an odd choice of location to base such a team.

If any players who "re-classified" end up back at an OHSAA or MHSAA school to finish high school, the four year limit on eligibility will apply to them and they won't be playing football senior year if it's their 5th year.  I think these kids made a risky and ill-advised choice.
