SoCal's Southern Section has 7,000 transfers for 2017-2018

The data is below. Keep in mind, this is for ONE SECTION, ONLY FOR FOOTBALL, not all of SoCal or all of CA for that matter.

Total number of transfers across all sports for this one section is around 7,000.

To be fair, this is down about 11% from 2018. 1,931 total football transfers for the 2019 school year.

My personal thoughts are that this is a total joke. Those that are cheering this on, should be ashamed. We all know this thread will turn into trolling from the SoCal posters. I am interested in what the posters outside of SoCal see this as. Thoughts?

Picture for reference is football only transfers.

SS has over 560 members...so this about 3.5 transfers per school for all sports, boys and girls.

Of course, the 1,931 is disproportionately distributed across around 100 or so schools. All 560 are not on the transfer train.

Even with these serious numbers, the SoCal posters will try to justify them.

For transparency, let's see if just ONE of them will willingly post the transfers numbers for football only, for the top 10 programs.

Let's see em!

Actually- the numbers reported above, seem to be for FOOTBALL ONLY. The real numbers, per this article, sit around 7,000, for 2017-2018.

Think about that- 7k transfers. And the SoCal posters knew this and went with the above reported number, hook, line, and sinker.

At just over 16k transfers in CA as a whole, nearly half come from ONE SECTION.

Last fall, the football team from Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) was crowned as Super 25 national champions. While repeating such a feat may be no small task, there is roster turnover at this and other Trinity League schools that is seemingly unprecedented in any other athletic league in the country.

As Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times reports, the CIF Southern Section released its latest transfer figures for April, and the total for 2017-18 among its high schools is 7,226. That number is up roughly 3% over last year’s number of 6,999 with one month of statistics to go, Sondheimer reports.

Within the highly competitive Trinity League, Mater Dei is No. 1 with 71 (!) transfers listed and, according to Sondheimer, there are more because several football players who arrived this spring are not yet listed on the Southern Section website. Schools may wait until the next school year to send in paperwork to confirm eligibility for fall athletes.

Also contributing to the high number of transfers within the prestigious league are Orange Lutheran with 63, followed by Santa Margarita Catholic at 51, San Juan Capistrano’s JSerra Catholic at 49, Bellflower’s St. John Bosco at 47 and Anaheim’s Servite at 26.

The Southern Section had already reached the 7,000-transfer plateau in April.

Per the Times, there were 16,595 reported transfers statewide last school year, so it should be interesting to see if the statewide total moves past 17,000 by the end of May.

And of them all, Mater Dei appears to currently be the hottest spot. The football program – with the addition of standouts like quarterback Bryce Young, running back Sean Dollars and wide receiver/cornerback Jeremiah Criddell, to name a few – might have a bit to do with that.

2018 School Year Football Transfer Numbers

Mater Dei: 71

OLU: 63

SMC: 51

JSerra: 49

SJB: 47

Servite: 26

Why are you so concerned about SS transfers?  Folsom is not about to play any of those teams.  Those teams you listed are private and you’ve already declared that you are anti private.  Just relax and enjoy your public school dominance.

We live in America, The Land of the Free. Thank goodness we have choices.

I am all for choices.

But this is a free for all that is not beneficial for HSFB as a whole. Why do you think we have the same exact thing happening across College Football now? It started here! No one sticks it out. No sense of loyalty or community anywhere. It sucks. Everyone and their parents just looking for the next coach peddling "playing time."

This has been going on for years. You purists should avoid elite hsfb going fwd.

Transfers have always been a part of HSFB and College.

But to the extent the SoCal Southern Section has taken it, is appalling. The transfer rules were not meant or intended for what they are being exploited for. I think you would agree.

I think it is quite normal to have a few transfers on a team, for various reasons. But 71!? C'mon now!

The NYC tristate area has 20M people, 7M more than the LA metro area, so yes.

I think a lot of it is in what these posters say about it in SoCal. They don't own it. It is still taboo.

They will be the first to call out a public school for 2 players not being born within 5 miles of the school. The same posters will then turn around and say- "Look at us! We have 70 transfers! You can't beat us! You are afraid of us!"

Just dumb. Lol.

I am concerned for the livelihood and long term success of HSFB. It is being eroded.

Then why haven’t you posted the link to the article in the Sacramento Bee that points out Folsom Fatigue syndrome as a factor in the decreasing attendance and revenue in your sections playoffs.  2018 D1 title game 3800.   2010 same game same venue 17000.  Seems like Folsom football is becoming unwatchable for all but Folsom fans.  Aren’t you concerned about that?

People getting tired of a public school, with a roster of mostly local kids, and a few transfers? No.

I think the fatigue is legit and is a compliment to the success of Folsom in the SJS. I'd rather have people be tired of me doing it the right way, versus the way the SoCal schools have opted for.

That is the difference between the North and South. You mention revenue as a factor, when this isn't even on the radar for most high schools. If you weren't so concerned with revenue and attendance, people would respect you a lot more. HSFB isn't about that. You are missing the point of all this.
