Rufus>> Was running around behind the endzone with other kids, throwing the ball around, watching our older brothers play. And staring at that ambulance. That friggin' ambulance, when someone got hurt, and it sprung into action... Memories. The state HS player of the year was that team's QB in '67, all-state in football and basketball. Ended up playing both in college, was a Playboy All-American in football (nice!), and got some time in the NFL and a Pro Bowl. He was a stud back in '67 on the HS field. And so was I behind the endzone -- as I recall.

Fred
I was and I remember. The whole town would practically shut down and go to games. Big ole cold concrete stadium and a grass field that had a low spot in it. I watched a player almost disappear on a tackle into the puddle in the snow and rain one night. Because of our age spread, there was one of my siblings or me in that high school for twenty consecutive years. My Dad went to more high school games there than any of the coaches because none of them lasted 20 years. 🤣 My mother even went to the same school and we had some of her teachers.

We would have kicked both your two's teams around, on the playground or on the gridiron, hell, in the classroom during recess while there was inclement weather outside...anywhere, it don't matter. We had that uncanny combination of size, speed, athleticism, competitiveness, etc. rarely seen in 2nd graders. Powerball, you 1st graders would have been scared to death of what we older kids had, and BGW, your tall ass and your 3rd grade buddies would have been embarrassed as mofos for getting repeatedly taken to the woodshed by us younguns. All we did in '67 was bring it, all day! "Go team, go! Do your best. Remember that you're fighting for ASS." We made that cheer up, but it was never incorporated by the cheerleaders into their repertoire. Sister Jane Mary was not fond of it, at least not publicly. She was kinda cute.
