TENNESSEE VAULTS INTO TOP 10, LANDS MALACHI WIDEMAN (12:48 p.m.)

Tennessee started out the day at No. 15 in the 2020 team rankings. The Vols have now vaulted in the top 10 by landing four-star wide receiver Malachi Wideman. The Florida native flipped from Florida State to the Vols, giving Tennessee an explosive piece on the outside at receiver. Wideman is among the best overall athletes in the 2020 class. He doubles as a four-star basketball recruit and will also likely suit up for Rick Barnes in Knoxville. Wideman ranks as the nation's No. 116 overall prospect. Here's 247Sports' football evaluation of Wideman.

"A blue-chip football and basketball recruit with length and muscular build. Known for freakish athleticism that allows for above the rim game on the hardwood and ideal red-zone and deep threat ability as wide receiver on gridiron. Effortless leaper with true ball skills and body control. Long strider with wide catch radius and plus ability after the catch. Can make plays in traffic with good quickness. Plays with good feel and awareness in the red zone. Raw route-runner at this stage. Could easily carry more weight if football becomes primary focus at collegiate level with athleticism to make early impact despite polish. A pro career in either sport seems possible depending on priorities following high school."

If he is that good then why go to Tennessee?  Why not a bama or Clemson?  Tennessee is bottom of the barrel sec team every year.

As of late yes they have been at the bottom. But if you know the SEC you know Tennessee has history and is the second most WINNING program in the SEC behind only Alabama. Players around the nation are aware of the culture change at Tennessee and know the potential of the sleeping giant. Everybody cant go to clemson or bama.

I hear ya, but the kids nowadays have never seen the Vols at or near the top.  They want to play for the current big dawgs in college football.

They all can't go to the Bama or Clemson only 11 can take the field not enough roster spots, these kids want to come in as a freshman and play immediately on the big SEC stage. Also this kid wants to play play basketball as well, Tennessee Basketball and Rick Barnes also played a big role in that. Tennessee basketball has a couple of 5* players and a few 4* joining the team next year, should be pretty good on the court as well. All these factor in to the recruiting process.

He said he decided on Tennessee in the end because of “just the chance to come in and do everything that I’ve always wanted to do, and that’s play Division I sports — both basketball and football — in a good environment.”

That will be hard to do... my kid wanted to do two sports at the power 5 level.

Gelen Robinson... Glen Robinson Jr's son tried wrestling and football... gotta fulfill all the practice requirements at Purdue to pull it off.

Gelen gave up wrestling.

Holding out hope that this kid can do it....

Lol he's good enough to earn 4* and a full ride to University of Tennessee to play basketball and or football. That's pretty good.

Those two things mean absolutely nothing regarding how good he is.

Plenty of stiffs have gotten 4-stars and a full ride.

To not understand that is to admit your ignorance.

I guess your right. He must not be good because you said so. They can play a lil football in Venice...

He thinks everyone sucks but I bet if he played at STA then he would be on here saying how great he is

But of course every player in every class has more athletic ability in a single finger than Los has ever had in his entire life

Good for them.

I don't know why they'd be excited about getting him but to each their own.

Kinda like I bet STA wishes they could take back ever letting you attend there out of pity, they are a class program but morons like you make it look like any clown can attend and graduate from the great private St Thomas Aquinas and makes their standards seem on par with a poor man public school
