Overreaction or ahead of the curve?

A few schools in PA declining to host basketball tournament games:

VA issued a statement discouraging teams from pre and postgame handshakes in basketball games this week, I wonder if we will also see more elbows and less hand-checking 😁

The whole country will be following the NY area's lead shortly. Everyone's being contained, self quarantining and staying out of large public gatherings in all aspects of life right now.

Looks like the games will be played with no fans around my area:

Considering where I am, and Westchester bring a “hot zone” there are rescheduling and last minute plans being made right now to try and keep the playoffs moving in NY.  Not sure how it’s going to play out here but it is a struggle.

I saw that Fordham said they would still be willing to host the State Federation championships but wouldn't allow any fans.

Ohio restricting attendance to a limited number of family members:

Proactive.

Are we going to wait and have to shut down the country (which seems to be the administrations plan) or shut down many things now and avoid the major hit?

The problem is, we need to do it as a country, not here and there. It will not work with 1,000's of different approaches. This is why we have a central government. They won't even test though and they hold the tongue of the CDC.

This is some fucked up shit.

Delaware moving their state basketball tournament after the University of Delaware decided not to allow spectators:

see

this is what I just spoke to

We need to be in unison as a country or, as in this case, just moving the threat across the street,

Idk, kinda hate to see it affect sports events like this, but, I figure an abundance of caution is the right course of action.

At one point the WHO estimated 80% of the world's population would be infected with this virus. Social distancing makes sure that all 80% doesn't contract it at once and inundate the medical systems all at once.

Cancelling sporting events or limiting close quarters contact is a good practice to slow the spread.

Too bad for the kids though.

it's not an abundance

look to italy to understand

the 80% is the estimate without nation measures to contain.

yes, even failed containment will slow it down and make it easier to deal with

If you all (NY and NJ guys) need to "bug out" at the last second w/ nowheres to go, find yourself heading towards eastern PA to the small town of Bethlehem.  There you will find food, shelter, clean water, and about 600 really good high school football games to watch either in the house or on the deck.  Tents can be put up in the yard next to the pond with access to all other household comforts.  You can chill w/ the dogs or walk across the street and hang out at Lehigh Univ sports fields.

I know this sounds like a silly invite but back-pocket this one just in case.

No they won't. Which Jersey people are you referring to? The majority of the state's population is in North Jersey (specifically Northeastern NJ) which is nowhere near Pburg or Bethlehem. That's country Jersey down and out there. Rutgers is much closer to the "Jersey people".

I was saying that Phillipsburg is more convenient to Bethlehem than it is to where most of the NJ population live now. Because saussmann had invited the population of NJ to Bethlehem in the previous post.
