Chance spring sports may not play. Sad for seniors.

Baseball playoffs start April 17 in Alabama. Problem is they may extend school closing beyond that.  Most schools play area games this time if year to determine playoffs.

These are unprecedented times. I thought back to last year when mine was a senior and all the things we enjoyed. Senior night for soccer might not be much for some but for her mom and I it was a special moment to spend with her. If we take steps now to control the outbreak, we will still be able to have graduations. If we ignore the social distancing warnings now, this could last for a month or two.

If you guys noticed my post numbers go way down over the past few months it's because I was in Rome, Italy for work. I left last Thursday on one of the last flights out before the travel ban. I was supposed to be there into July and my employer went through the bureaucratic nightmare and expense of getting me an Italian/EU work visa. They paid for my flight back to the US even though there's no possibility of me being able to do the work from home. I'm in self quarantine now and will be for another week and a half. I'm young and asymptomatic and Rome is not a hotspot for the virus (less than 600 cases and 25 deaths out of 6 million people in the Lazio region) so I wasn't even tested or questioned upon my arrival back in the US.

From first hand experience with a country a couple weeks further into this than the US, it's going to be a rough couple months. I would be very surprised if schools were back in session this year. If everyone is smart and stays home, it will only be a rough couple of months. If people are dumb about this and don't take it seriously it'll probably be a rough six months or more.

Most in Alabama think school is done for 2019-2020.  Sports, proms, graduations are done. Hoover has graduation at UAB and claims 5000 plus show up. You know that will not happen.

Plus some kid is thinking he may get a piece ass prom night is coming up with empty pockets.

Nice to see someone with scruples and common sense.  Good on you.

Guy in my town just returned from Italy.  Went to the Post Office and Library first thing.

When I asked him if he was going to self-quarantine he said “Nah, I’m going to the mall tonight.”

A real peach of a guy.

There were 8 Americans including me working over there. 6 of us self-quarantined, 1 did not. He said he needed to go get furniture for his new apartment back home. Guess it couldn't have waited a week or been ordered online. 1 chose to remain in Italy and ride it out. We all had EU work visas which meant we were entitled to all the perks of being Italian citizens for the length of our stay, including the free health insurance.

Rome has quite a large American expat community (I was told 30,000 Americans and Canadians) and many are still there but with my work visa having a definitive expiration date, my employer offering me a free ticket and the travel ban coming into place, I felt like I had to go back to the states. It's looking like it'll be quite a long time before any regular international flights between the US and Europe again so I think I made the right choice.
