So since the we are all in dire need of sports talk I figured I'd go all the way back to the start of the maxpreps era and discuss past rankings year by year.   For the first throwback discussion we go back to 2004.   I will post some rankings that I can find, but it's a bit harder to find some of the older rankings so if any of you guys can post links to any other publications that be awesome.    Any film, highlights, articles on games, discussion of talented players etc is all good!

So to start off I'm seeing some really random teams from random states lol.   As you can see the maxpreps computer rankings were pretty horrible at the time.   Can anyone confirm if this was the same as Calpreps back then?

What teams were underrated?   Overrated?

We were horrible.

But, yeah, Killian being one spot ahead of Lakeland in the USA Today Poll is weird and indefensible.

Yeah they relied on the D and just had no offense to do anything vs Lakeland.

STA had  Sam Young, Marcus Gilbert, Major Wright, and Geno Atkins on that team and still got crushed.

Here's something interesting, @954gator. Both Lowndes and Camden County are from the same region, Region 1. And there are only 4 teams in that region. Yet somehow both teams end up ranked in the top 25 nationally.

For Florida I think Lakeland is a bit underrated.   They really put it on STA that year.

Underrated moment in the pregame.

James Bates to Brady Ackerman: "Man, are you weak. What was your school's fight song? She Bangs?"

Back then Camden was in the Savannah schools region....

Back then Region 1 was:

Lowndes

Colquitt

Tift

Valdosta

Coffee

Warner Robins

Northside WR

Houston

I hate talking about Camden being in the Savannah regions. When they where in the Savannah region...

Everything pre-2011 is just dead in the water... Benedictine and Camden ran that region...

That was stupid... Not even stupid fucking sheer dumbassery the GHSA lumped Camden with us when I was younger in Savannah... Left for Tifton and then Camden followed me to Region 1...

I was convinced it was a curse...

Fucking hated playing Camden...

Think about how amazing this would be today. Absolutely beautiful. I bet things were different in 2004, though.

Northside WR and Lowndes used to have some grueling games... Wish they'd play more but obviously one has fallen off....

Conrad Nix had Northside WR primed...
