Calpreps - state scaling, from Freeman himself

Particularly... check this part out... the part in parenthesis, where it says THE STATE AS A WHOLE GETS A BUMP FROM AN OOS WIN.

For example, sometimes you'll see a team score an impressive upset win against an out-of-state national power, and of course the winning team (and their state as a whole) get a bump out of that, but it can sometimes appear to the naked eye as if it wasn't enough of a bump.

OMG READ THIS... ITS LIKE HE TOOK THE WORDS OUT OF MY MOUTH..

So, if a state has played a large sample size of out-of-state games, and consistently done better than ratings would say was expected, then obviously that state needs more recognition.  We're not talking about a state that has only played a couple of out-of-state games here, but say for example that a state has played 30 out-of-state games and averaged winning those games by 2.5 points more than the ratings would suggest (discarding blowouts).  That state simply then gets a +2.5 point bump in terms of where they slot in against the rest of the teams in the country.

check this...

As an example, IL/GA/UT/AZ were the main states that needed bumps in 2016, as it turns out

GEORGIA IS IN HIS LIST

...

FU POPS

AND FU ARARAR

AND FU NOR

Could you guys start from the beginning and explain what the issue is with Calpreps?  Thanks.

????

In the beginning ;)
Back in nineteen fifty five
Man didn't know about a rock 'n' roll show
And all that jive
The white man had the smoltz
The black man had the blues
No one knew what they was gonna do
But Tchaikovsky had the news
He said

Let there be sound, and there was sound
Let there be light, and there was light
Let there be drums, and there was drums
Let there be guitar, and there was guitar
Let there be rock

Good stuff.

So this adjustment goes back retroactively according to the statement.

Between ECHS and Golf staying on the subject and studying the system to the point of recording the scores and ratings themselves and a new algorithm or two out there giving competition, the man finally started moving the right direction.

I sent him a very detailed email a couple months back. About exactly what he speaks of... states doing better in OOS games than CP projections them to, consistently... I dont mean just 1 team doing better than CP says, I mean teams as a state collectively.... that speaks to a state being underscaled.. I sent him the data I collected on GA & CA.

And since he literally addresses all of the things I preached of, I cant help but feel like my emails and our threads on here opened his eyes a bit.

In the end, he'll have a better product for paying attention to those that pay the most attention.

I would say that it is difficult to argue with facts, but we already know that people on here do it all the time. Hell, this is the year that we learned of alternative facts actually, so as long as there is that set of alternative facts, we will always see the facts get argued with. If that makes any sense at all. xD

I still can't figure out why everyone gets so defensive about their state etc. Watching good hs football from any state is good stuff. Bosco, DLS, East from Utah, BG, MV, St Eds, Chandler etc and on and on. Its all good.

This was about CP and how it works. Pops, NOR, ararar, aztec, and a few others have been taken to school.

NOR quoting me CalPreps National Ratings, telling me Im an idiot when I mention state scaling because it doesnt exist... just in the "Colquitt vs Vista Murrieta" thread Pops was telling me Im "embarrassing myself" with the +- for GA , and the state needing to be boosted based on OoS results.

Now even Ned himself says I was right.

So those people that didnt have a clue and were arguing with me telling me Im wrong for years can suck it.

It boils down to caring about a product that is widely accepted as some level of gospel by so many. It is more than just being defensive about a state or region, it's more about principle imo.

Exactly, its the principle. For years Ive been trying to point something out, and a group of posters would tell me Im "embarrassing" myself or Im an "idiot" for it.

NOR would say Im not a mathematician, but it doesnt take one to know what I know. And math is my best subject btw. But its also research, problem solving, and reasoning. Had he bothered to put in the work I did to understand, he mightve seen it too... but he chose not to and tell me Im an idiot when I did.

Every single one of them should get on here and give me a "You were right, and I was wrong".

Golf had my back the entire time. Which I appreciate. I knew one day, in some way, Id be shown to be right. And there it is.
