MA Fan
Haven't been following that closely this year, but should be some decent matchups this weekend. All the games in the larger classes start Saturday at 2:00 and should be on NFHS or YouTube, no guarantees on production values. Highland Springs-Maury is probably the premier matchup but the Class 6 games are good as well. Class 6 Massaponax (8-0) at Oscar Smith (7-0): Massaponax has been averaging 50 ppg with their triple option offense and won all games by at least 37 points, maybe they'll be the Fredericksburg-area team to finally get over the hump against Oscar Smith. South County (8-0) at Madison (8-0): South County is the defending champions from 2019 and have been rolling despite a coaching change. Madison doesn't score much but hasn't given up more than 14 points in a game. Class 5 Highland Springs (8-0) at Maury (6-1): Maury is the 2019 champs, but looking to avenge a 71-28 loss at the hands of the Springers in 2019. Stone Bridge (7-0) at William Fleming (6-2): Stone Bridge won a surprise basketball championship this year, so the pressure is on the football team to finally bring home another trophy. Class 4 King George (8-0) at Lake Taylor (6-0): Lake Taylor beat Maury early in the season. King George not a team with much recent success but knocked off two strong programs (Louisa and Monacan) in the regional playoffs. Tuscarora (7-0) at Salem (8-0): Rematch of 2019 semifinal which Tuscarora won handily. Class 3 Independence (5-1) at Lafayette (7-0): Independence is a second-year school that will move up two classes next year, QB just got an offer from Florida State, Liberty Christian (6-1) at Lord Botetourt (8-0): The original LCA making their first playoff run since joining the VHSL. Class 2 Stuarts Draft (7-1) at Poquoson (4-2): Draft's only loss was to Class 1 power Riverheads. Appomattox (8-0) at Union (6-2): Appomattox looking to win their 5th title in 6 years. Class 1 Riverheads (8-0) at West Point (5-2): Long trip for Riverheads, but the four-time defending champions should extend their 34-game winning streak. Galax (8-0) at Holston (7-1): Galax is the last team to beat Riverheads in the playoffs, in the 2015 championship game.

So, about six seasons ago, he came to Georgia for a look see! And after only four seasons, he won Marietta's first state title since I was in boot camp in 1967! All other seasons, have sadly been beLOOOW .500! And his toughest schedule to date, could be on the horizon!

MA Fan
Only one non-undefeated team in Saturday's finals and their loss came at the hands of another finalist. Class 6 (2:00) South County (9-0) at Oscar Smith (8-0): SoCo beat OS 14-13 in the 2019 final. OS looking to lose their fifth championship game in the last six years. Class 5 (2:00) Stone Bridge (8-0) vs. Highland Springs (8-0): Stone Bridge is 1-8 in state championship games. HS won four straight between 2015 and 2018 before falling short in 2019. HS is building a new school where their field used to be so this will be played at a nearby neutral site. Class 4 (3:00) Salem (9-0) at Lake Taylor (7-0) Class 3 (2:30) Lord Botetourt (9-0) at Lafayette (8-0) Class 2 (2:30) Apomattox (9-0) at Stuarts Draft (8-1) Class 1 (1:00) Galax (9-0) at Riverheads (9-0)

Stone Bridge missed an 18-yard field goal to win it at the end of regulation. Highland Springs got a field goal on their OT possession to take a 10-7 lead. Stone Bridge with 3rd down from the 1-yard line on their possession and they get called for a chop block, pushing them back fifteen yards Replay 3rd down from the 16, QB throws it into the end zone to a receiver who is not open but he outjumps Oklahoma commit DB and makes a great catch for the win. Stone Bridge sideline rushes into the end zone to celebrate, trampling the DB who is still on the ground and almost leading to a brawl. Kid who made the winning catch for Stone Bridge (Jacob Thomas) also scored 27 points in the state championship basketball game in February. Oscar Smith destroyed South County 62-21, all the scoring done by the middle of the third quarter. 1
