Not a lot of bragging today

What the hell is the deal with restaurants automatically adding a 23% tip to the bill? Not sure if it's happening everywhere, but it is here -- no matter the number of people in a party (2 people - automatic 23% added; 8 people - 23% added). A tip has to do with the service received, and 23% equates to outstanding service. For restaurants to include a 23% gratuity in every bill is silly. They should increase their menu prices and pay their workers more if that is a concern, and let people decide where they want to eat. And then the customers can decide what the tip percentage should be for each meal. Some servers will deserve 23%, plenty deserve 20%, some deserve 15%, and a few less. I can guarantee that the young lady last weekend who struggled talking about basic menu items and had to be reminded that we had asked for a little extra oil AND vinegar and asked if we wanted extra bread after we specifically had told her we did not want extra bread and came by on two occassions questioning if our plates could be cleared when we obviously were still enjoying our meals, was a very cute girl in a cool restaurant, but did not deserve a 23% tip. Maybe she will as she becomes better at what she does, but the point is there is no way every single server deserves an automatic 23% tip.

I deal in facts, not anecdotes from dumbass quacks who can't even get things right in their "specialty."

Ask any business owner and they'll give you one biased perspective.

Here's anecdotal evidence.

I go to a lot of restaurants and bars in a big hospitality town and I've never been delayed, refused a seat, waited on a meal because they didn't have enough help.

And let's be clear. This is only a hospitality/service industry issue. A field that has historically paid shit wages. Businesses have had to start giving signing bonuses to entice people.

Bormio thinks adding 1.4 million jobs in 3 months and wait staff getting signing bonuses is a disaster.

For first time, average pay for supermarket and restaurant workers tops $15 an hour

The U.S. labor market hit a new milestone recently: For the first time, average pay in restaurants and supermarkets climbed above $15 an hour. Wages have been rising rapidly as the economy reopens and businesses struggle to hire enough workers. Some of the biggest gains have gone to workers in some of the lowest-paying industries.

Numbers show Florida ending unemployment benefits didn't work

In May, the state of Florida announced it would end the $300 federal unemployment benefit. Gov. Ron DeSantis said the extra financial incentive was keeping people from returning to the workplace.

But, new numbers suggest so far it could be having the opposite effect.

Payroll Management Firm UKG found employment fell .9 percent in states where the federal benefits ended but rose 2.3 percent in states that still have them.

Similarly, work shifts grew 2.2 percent between May and July in states where benefits ended - 4.1 percent where the additional federal benefit has been maintained.

The majority of bars and restaurants in  South Beach do this, but not 23%, more like 18% or 20%.

That usually happens because Brazilians, Argentinians, and Brits (along with a large handful of others) don’t tip or don’t want to so it takes away any chance of a $1,000+ tab getting left with $0.

Semantics are also important. A “gratuity” is fully kept by the service staff and a “service charge” is actually something the venue can legally take a decent chunk of for whatever reason they choose.

Growth anemic, inflation accelerating. Back to the 70’s.  Country way underemployed.  Fuel pumps empty, spam for Thanksgiving, coal in Christmas stockings (until they ban it).  Going to be hunting Democrats with dogs soon.

Since you failed all of us, I'll post the job numbers.

Strong U.S. payrolls brighten economic outlook; millions still missing from workforce

The Labor Department's closely watched employment report's survey of establishments on Friday showed nonfarm payrolls increased by 531,000 jobs last month. Data for September was revised higher to show 312,000 jobs created instead of the previously reported 194,000. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast payrolls rising by 450,000 jobs.

Almost 850,000 jobs added in the last two months.

Bormio angry.

Bormio lying.

Bormio sad.

Inflation is at its highest level this century.

Non-farm employment is still about 4 million below the high achieved before the pandemic hit.

Labor participation is well below where it was two years ago.

The Misery Index is at nearly 11%.

But per Andy, Bormio should be celebrating.

🤡

No, Bormio is a clown and a quack.

That's the message.

Concha big mad that all the stuff he was bragging about pre-COVID, which was also trending up Pre-Trump, are still still trending up under Biden.

It's almost as if concha was just manufacturing talking points.

🤔

I don't recall bragging about the number of employed Americans being down 4 million from its peak, lauding high inflation and a high Misery Index or praising the labor participation rate being sharply down.

But you are a liar, so there's that.

Carry on, Andy.  Your $40k/yr clerk duties await.

Hey, chuck...$40k/yr is more than blockhead813 and imagoodboynow make combined.

It's one of the many reasons people laugh and totally disregard their saggy opinions on everything..

....laugh with us!

It's actually pretty comical that chuck (aka concha) thinks he's the high earner of the forum anyways.

I blame the internet for chuck's thought process regarding yearly salaries.

I'll await Bormio's certain argument that this is, counterintuitively, bad news.

Weekly jobless claims plunge to 199,000, the lowest level in more than 50 years

The number of Americans filing initial unemployment claims tumbled to 199,000 — the lowest level since November 1969 — the Labor Department reported Wednesday.

Separately, the Commerce Department said that consumer spending increased by 1.3 percent in October, its fastest pace since March, in a sign that Americans are continuing to spend despite rising prices.

1) Given the current low LPR, the labor force being 4M workers shy of its high under Trump and the over 10.4M current job openings, that's good? Americans not wanting to work is a good thing?

2) Which is much less than 1.3% when netted against inflation. Here's some fun data:  Real disposable personal income is declining. This would indicate that folks are spending the "free" gubmint money they saved, which is thus not going to be sustainable spending.

Look at consumer sentiment: "...the University of Michigan reported that its consumer sentiment index fell 4.3 percentage points to a reading of 67.4 this month, its lowest level since November 2011, weighed down by inflation concerns.".

What a dumbass.

But he thinks he's being clever.
