Ruston Traveling 315 Miles to Spring Scrimmage With Edna Karr Tomorrow.....

Seems like a long trip for a spring scrimmage....taking it seriously.

Spring games/scrimmages are here though.

Rummel will be traveling to Ruston this year.....that's like an OOS game. Rummel doesn't get to North Louisiana much.

Anyways, 5A Ruston plays in the same district as West Monroe.

Ruston has some nice facilities up there. Nice stadium, holds about 7000,  I believe. A lot of tradition at Ruston. Bert Jones, Fred Dean and those guys.

Ruston ranks 2nd in Louisiana is producing NFL players with 19....2 active currently.

Ruston is really trying to take a serious step forward, I really like coach Baugh and what he's doing over there.  Between Baugh at Ruston and Bachman at Alexandria, West Monroe may soon find themselves competing for 3rd place in the District along with Ouachita (depending on who they get as their new head coach). 😲

Ruston was pretty competitive last year.......went 7-3.

The 3 losses were to:

D1 Champ: Catholic-BR 48-42

5A Champ: Acadiana 24-10

5A Semifinalist: Destrehan (NOLA) 6-0 (playoffs)

Maxpreps had Ruston #6 in 5A Public (about right).......overall they had Ruston at #18 in the state.

We play Barbe tomorrow in Sulphur for all the marbles in 5A Baseball...

West Monroe was seeded higher in the playoffs for both basketball and baseball than we were in football...  that's very telling.  Time for a change (like Ruston, like Alexandria, like Ouachita)

Barbe beat #26 Sam Houston in a classic yesterday 1-0 and IMG hasn't played a game since April.

Looking at Barbe's talent and it's unreal.....they have 6 pitchers who will play college baseball....4 pitchers already committed.

Barbe has 9 total commits (3 LSU and 1 Mississippi St) already and that's not counting all the 2023 and 2024 class yet.

Jack Walker (Mississippi St commit) pitched yesterday for Barbe.....

Good looking prospect...can hit 94 mph, nasty breaking ball.

Shame Ruston plays dog shit teams in regular season,  but will travel 7 hours round trip for a meaningless scrimmage

Idk man we not looking to good @ OL unless 2 of our Sophomore JV linemen step up to the plate 

 

 

and Delby won’t be good , they lost thier Primo QB to Northwestern 

with that tuition, it’s really hard to stay competitive in  football

Baseball is big in Lake Charles area....They start'em young.

If a Louisiana Little League team makes the Little League World Series...chances are the kids are from or near that area.

(Also helps they have a good feeder system in the sport and some coaches that get the most out of thier players.)

It's not just them either.  Louisiana is "pro-baseball." Especiallythe southern part of the state.

Probably a combination of both. I will say the Lake Charles Little League is one of the best in nation. 

Barbe in baseball is like Katy in football........you can count on both putting quality products on the field. Other sports both (Barbe/Katy) may have a good team every now and again.....they are who they are and really that could be said for lots of schools.

Lake Charles, La isn't a small place either......almost 80,000 population and Metro population of 210,000......basically on the Texas border.

Lake Charles is about 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.....they have been hit by a million hurricanes, but survive each one of them. There's water everywhere in Lake Charles.

Anyways, cool place to kill a weekend if ever in Louisiana. Beaches, casinos, food/music and etc...That's the long-winded Barbe story.
