CalPreps 41-50 rated teams currently

Interesting group of 10 schools here… not sure I’ve ever seen Freeman rate a MA school this high (Massey has them rated in the 300’s not including this past week’s update).  @MA Fan what’s the 411 on this squad?

STA boosted Jesuit up after the Cardinal Gibbons win, but STA is in quicksand .2 behind Jesuit and can’t pass them while Jesuit has been underperforming for some time.

Same deal with DLS.  They are stuck .2 behind St Francis.

Never heard of Lipscomb Academy (rated 60 nationally)… they beat Etowah AL (rated 120 in AL currently) 70-10 this past weekend.   Freeman digs Oakland TN and I noticed that school was their top opponent and rated quite highly.

Lipscomb is pretty solid.  Oakland is the team to beat in TN.  And doesn't look like they're going anywhere soon.

Etowah in Alabama is a very average 4A school.  They would be a 2A in Georgia.

Catholic Memorial is good. I've seen them this year. Skill players are all juniors. Three BC commits in that junior class. They're very good for up here. Nationally? Hard to say. But as Mass. teams go the Knights are the most deserving of any right now.

Hey old chum.  Nice to see you post.  👍🏻

STA and Jesuit should also be higher IMO

STA is blocked by Jesuit and Jesuit has been underperforming since the STA win.

Similar with DLS, no matter how good they play, they can only lift St Francis so far and are blocked by them.

I’m interested to see how Ken Massey’s ratings reflect this current week and will share.
I don’t believe Massey follows the “.2 behind a team you lost too as long as that team is undefeated, no matter how poorly they play” rule.

Massey’s overall ratings through this past weekend…

DLS:  52   St Francis:  462

STA:  40   Jesuit:  127

Massey power rating (current strength and used for site’s game predictions)

DLS:   32   St Francis : 654

STA:   37   Jesuit:  199

Lipscomb is legit (so is Oakland). That have a great coaching staff (head coach is Trent Dilfer, yes that Trent Dilfer) and it is a wealthy private school that draws in the best recruits from the Nashville area and beyond.

IMO - STA being held back by Jesuit is much more egregious than DLS being held back by St Francis (sidebar note: The STA case is a pretty interesting one within the confines of the Calpreps rules universe - I'm guessing Jesuit stumbles somewhere, and it will be interesting to see what happens with STA when they do).

Obviously I don't really know, but DLS, because of the confines of the Calpreps rules universe, might be  close to about where they belong this year.

Oakland and Hoover have contracts stating that if they field an 11 man varsity football team, then they are automatically put into a national top 100 regardless of opponents and on field results

You really think Hoover is not a top 100 team this year? Best team we have had in probably the past 4-5 years. Problem is Thompson is top 5 nationally.  We are going to get beat by them Friday.  Dang you must really hate me.

Well put (as always) and indeed if Jesuit loses, it will be interesting to see where STA lands.  They’ve got Dillard this week.  Hard to say how good Dillard is, but STA needs to reduce the penalties and not give up special teams gimmes.

I’m looking fwd to watching more Cali games and of course will root for DLS.  I enjoyed the CC vs Norco game last week on TV.  CC needs to firm up their secondary, otherwise solid looking team.

It was an old joke that goes back to the rivals days where Hoover was in the top 100 no matter what
