Colquitt Goes To 8-2...or...It's About To Get REAL REAL

Morning Gurus...

My bunch of poor, tiny, little undersized Hawgs ended the regular season with a win over our long time rival...The Dastardly Tift County Blue Devils.  The final score.....31-6.

It pretty much was a tale of two halves.  In the first...Colquitt could do no wrong scoring 24 of its 31 points.  The Packers played inspired football.  Colquitt's Blackhat defense played with passion...and actually showed they COULD tackle when called upon.  Neko Fann guided his troops effectively and Charlie Pace ground thru the infamous Blue Devil defense with both power and finesse.  Tift's lonesome score came when Colquitt stopped a Tift receiver short of the end zone but he fumbled and the ball was recovered by Tift in the end zone for a TD.

The 2nd half wasn't as much fun to watch.

Neither team showed a lot of spark.  Probably because of adjustments that were made at the half...but also...I think there was a loss of focus.  I will say...I've never seen a team that was down 24-6...constantly run the dive play straight into the Packer D-Line.  CONSTANTLY.  Three yards and a cloud of turf.  The game started getting a bit chippy in the 4th.  Several unsportsmanlike penalties...on both sides.  Colquitt put the final 7 points up in the coffin with around 2:53 to go in the game.

There were (2) exciting plays that really stood out.  Tift's longest play came from Tyre West...Tift's ALL WORLD D-Tackle...who's on his way to Georgia after graduation.  Tift sent him in to lineup at the TE position.  Our coaches were screaming "trick play" but it never registered on the field.  Collecting a pass...Mr. West showed off his athleticism burning about 50 yards before he was dragged down.  That young man can motor.

The second outstanding play came in the same series of downs.  Colquitt's Blackhats stiffened causing Tift to attempt a FG.  The snap was fumbled and the Tift holder had to run for his life.  He tried to pass the ball but his arm was hit.  The "floater" was intercepted by Colquitt's ALL WORLD D-Tackle...Marcus Ponder.  That young man rumbled 42 yards back the other way before the Blue Devils could get him down.  Mr. West doesn't have anything speed wise on him...(Smile).

So we get next week off to recuperate and plan.  My guru out of North Morven says it will either be Marietta or Walton coming down to friendly confines of the Hawg Pen.  They play next Friday night.  The loser comes to us.  Should be a bigtime in the Pen.

One final question....how do you let Belcher get behind you with 30 seconds to go in the game?  I'm asking Camden.  For a friend.

Lowndes has just enough talent on O to make you miss someone slipping into a soft spot in your defense. Idk the little white receivers name, but, damn if we didn't let his little ass settle right into the soft spot in the center of our defense (everything behind the line of scrimmage was a soft spot) and just kick our ass. If you key on Belcher and Jacurri running, they sneak that little guy back there on you.

But, yeah, monumental screw up letting Belcher get behind you at any point in the game, but, especially at that point.

Wheel route. Nobody has covered chase on it all year.

The only time it hasn't work is when the o line is getting worked and jacurri doesn't have time.

I hear you 96...but there were 30 seconds left.  There is absolutely no reason for ANYBODY to get behind the defense.  The ball was on the Lowndes 22 yard line...right?

He didn't just get behind them. He was 10 yards behind the nearest defender.

I wonder how Coach Herron feels about that this morning. Some defensive coaches probably having sore butts this morning.

We snatched defeat from the Jaws of victory last night. I have no words for how they let that young man get 10 yards behind them. It's been a rough year.

I suspect that yall will be a different team next year. I think most of us knew it would take a year or two to return to the Herron days of old.
