If you need talent on every level of defense to be successful you aren't a good coach

I get tired of the silly fan girls even those in the Lowndes community making excuses for coaches and blaming playere.

I guess scheming and putting players in position to succeed doesn't exist anymore. If anyone has seen Lowndes over the last 2years you know our defense has been sub par at best. Had one our fans almost cry trying to back the DC saying he is "trying".

Hell if all it took was trying everyone would be a coach. Had a little rant because I hate being mediocre and I hate fans/ coaches that are ok with being mediocre as well. Just breeding a team of losers.

I’ve had a hard time of late to recognize trying.

Trying to make sense of this...

You can scheme all you want and still get wrecked if your team lacks the talent to stop anyone.

That's like all these folks in Texas thinking playing man with 2-safties would stop the Rockwall teams from scoring.  But if you have average DBs or an average pass rush going up against Above average/elite WRss.  Ya gonna get abused.

Sometimes the other team is simply just "better."

With that said...If people are blaming players that are playing thier heart-and-soul out for the team..then they aren't worth shit.

Exactly. Its pitiful. Even im tired of LG taking up for coaches. He can take those excuses for grown men back to Berrien.

Blaming kids for not going a full 4Qs. Those kids do exactly what those coaches let them do at practice. They play wrap up and chill at practice and they get in the games and do the same thing.

Even Jeff herron said all the defenses in region 1 are soft.

I agree. Our defense last year was good but this year the coach is like "new faces in new places" which I can't figure out how you get to that point with no experienced players at so many positions when you have a roster of 90+.

That really never happened before and we played much tougher schedules. We just aren't rotating in next years starters or whatever I guess. Idk.

This year our dline was solid but we were lacking in linebackers and secondary. Lacking in size, experience and ability. Now we hardly ever have been huge in those areas, but, the kids weren't green at the positions they were put in. Somehow we apparently got to the point where the kids were green.

On the bright side we looked great against those small class schools. Hahaha

I’ll say this for practicing how you play…….When I was a defensive coach back in the day, our HC asked me to use the Freshmen to run scout O. I said, “Not no, Cousin, HELL NO!” He looked at me like I was nuts and tried to point out how he thought it would help when I cut him off.

Long story short I told him going full speed against a bunch of kids just hitting puberty is gonna do nothing for a bunch of upperclassmen. Those kids needed to be hitting (and getting hit by) people their own size at full speed. I won the argument and a shit ton of games where the defense shut people down.

That’s why you go full speed at all times against the best opposition you can.

Exactly our defense was bad with the experience we gave up 25+ to every team with a pulse on offense last year and this year had just not been Lowndes football on defense.

Saying its because of youth and inexperience should be proof coaches aren't doing their jobs. There's no way we should have a 9th grader starting but due to him being coached up in travel ball he was able to skip over a bunch of upper class kids because they have no football IQs and haven't been taught anything. I see it every year no development at all. Corners getting burnt on every pass play. OL blocking ghost or getting put on their ass. LBs getting ran over. Safeties getting ran over and burnt in coverage. I don't even think the kids know the meaning and jobs of their positions.

They lost me down here when they said they weren't tackling starters and not tackling anyone to the ground. They are making our kids soft. Meanwhile the 9th graders most played travel football with me and other coaches that get on their ass. They were doing board drills before games this season. We will and should have a lot of 10th graders starting next year. They have way higher IQs than the upper class and even more than some of the coaches.

I understand WHY coaches wanna be careful during practice. It’s be a damn shame if a kid got hurt and lost time due to a practice injury where he maybe breaks a collarbone or something due to landing funny on his shoulder.

IT IS FOOTBALL!!! It’s a tough sport played by tough people. If you can’t handle it maybe football isn’t for you.

we completely agree here @Ga96 so mark your calendar because you are spot on here. You play how you practice. If you ain’t being physical in practice not everybody can flip a switch and be physical in games!
