Sweetlarry
First of all let me congratulate milton. They were the better team from the announcer and their twelve fans (couldn’t help myself) to their players and coaches. Just better last night. Best of luck to them moving forward. NOW…….to the meat and potatoes of this…….Marietta left a lot of opportunities out there last night. More than enough to win. That first half was about as bad as I’ve seen a Varsity Marietta Football team play in nine years of watching. From the turnovers, to the missed assignments to the defensive scheme. Just bad. Milton rushed for around 500 yards. If I knew how to make the numbers bigger I would. 500 YARDS! Lord Almighty! Our DEs bit on every single ball came that QB1 had. EVERY ONE. After that, they’d crash and lose contain or go into chase mode against a faster kid. Both are recipes for disaster. Similar to NC, no idea why we didn’t spy and pop his ass on every snap. Literally put a hat on him every time the ball was snapped, whether he handed it off or not. That mindset, at least, puts the kids in the frame of mind that they’ve gotta key on him. That may have been part of the scheme but n certain calls, but it should’ve all night. As a DC your main job is to take away the oppositions biggest threat. Make them beat you another way. Whatever that is, you just cannot let their #1 weapon do what he did. Just like with NC. I don’t know. Offensively we had opportunities, just couldn’t make enough plays and turned the ball over too much. That hot potato display in the first quarter was tough to watch. Our QB had a rough 1QTR to say the least, but is a gamer and battled back. Just couldn’t make enough plays in the end. Wish we would’ve ran inside a bit more to negate their DEs pinning their ears back. Maybe (again like with NC) ran some different formations, rub routes, quick double moves to get our diminutive WRs some space but we didn’t. They diagnosed our screens and batted many passes down on them. Too many not to try something else to negate the DEs. I could go on and will answer questions if any are asked. The class of 22 had some good ball players who are better kids and my wish is for them to go BE SOMEBODY moving forward. A lot of contributors to the title run a few years ago. Feel bad it ended the way it did, but there’s only one team at the end of the line that is all smiles. Ain’t us this year. Best of luck to everybody with teams still in it! Keep ‘em healthy. 1
