Or, it could turn out to be a big fat nothing burger.   People will remember the championships while the scandal wilts away.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office does not intend to file charges in the case and views the altercation as mutual combat.

Teach your kids to just say no and you don't consent. Refusing to Play some dumb pain tolerance game doesn't make you weak. Imo, being peer pressured and bullied to do something you don't want to do makes you look weak.

My problem is with the claim that the trainer was told to not to contact the parents/paramedic. *IF* true, that administrator needs to be gone tomorrow.

It's alleged that not only was there an issue with contacting paramedics and parents, but the cut and bleeding kid was not treated by the trainer until after other player's ankles were taped. If that's true, it's too bad -- and indicative of the football team culture --, and changes need to be made immediately. But allegations aren't automatically proof that certain things happened. We'll see.

Exactly how I feel. Grown adults ignored a kids bloody face to tape ankles? Not buying it, but IF true, fire everybody. Atrocious.

Let me help you out with what you should say.

"This is unfortunate to even hear about and I hope it isn't true, but looking at the article and the seriousness of the situation if true all those responsible should be held to the full extent of the law"

I remember a story about racism at Servite dropping before one of their games and now all of a sudden a story about Mater Dei drops before their game.

Turn about is fair play I reckon.

Yeah. Some stories have legs though. Apparently this one has been around for several months but just gets broken nationally right before the big game.

Some big accusations in this one. Not some kids chanting racial slurs or a player from one team calling a player from another team a slur. This one is about a culture of violence and cover-up simmering for months already.

Trash humans hiding behind the guise of a religion. Its even worse when you can search mater dei or trinity league sued and you see a whole list of lawsuits and all mention the schools of covering up stuff and having to reach settlements.

Really wish the article would have said concussion if that’s the case.  “Brain injury” is not something to play around with.

This was in the opening post of the news report:

Player 1’s father took him to an urgent care facility later that night and to a pediatrician the following day. In addition to the three cuts around the eyes, Player 1 suffered a concussion, eyes swollen, slurred speech and a fracture left nasal passage – a broken nose, according to the pediatrician’s report on the exam.

He underwent surgery at Children’s Hospital of Orange County on Feb. 10. According to the operation report, “patient is a 16-year-old boy male with a history of assault by a fellow football teammate six days prior in which he sustained multiple bodily injuries including a displaced comminuted nasal fracture as well as multiple soft tissue issue.”

Doctors “confirmed a displaced nasal fracture with evidence of comminuted fracture of the nasal bones on CT scan performed on 2/5/2021.”

What about the kid with the brain damage?....how's he doing?

Right, you don't give a shit!

Thanks for asking RedZone.

The injured student, identified in this report as Player 1, eventually withdrew from Mater Dei and continues to have issues related to his brain injury, according to records and interviews.

The injured player was actually suspended by Mater Dei according to the report. Talk about adding insult to injury.

It's hard to fake brain damage......it came from somewhere.

The extent of the brain damage is something we don't know yet, but will eventually find out when mater dei goes to court.

I'm not questioning whether or not someone was injured...it seems they have video proof of the hazing/altercation. I'm curious if the report of how it was handled is accurate (did the trainer really ignore treating a cut and bloodied kid until after other players had their daily ankle wraps completed, and then nonchalantly delay contacting paramedics and parents?). If accurate, there appears to be a culture of hazing that is commonplace, and pressure to not "snitch" about it. Fuck both those things. Hazing is ridiculous, and keeping quiet based on fear of retaliation for snitching is just as fucked up of a situation.

This all just gives fuel for the anti football crowd and how football creates a bad culture in the schools for antisocial and unacceptable behavior. Not to mention schools that have mercenary students who's only existence in the school is to play football or otherwise they would not be there.

These students tend to think they are above the rules and are doing the school a favor for being there. It's quite the interesting dynamic for High School. It became acceptable in the Universities due to the big money involved not sure what the high schools gain for breaking/bending rules or traditions for gridiron glory.

Typically when the football programs starts to overpower the school it implodes and then the schools cut back and make changes to scale back the program. We will see what happens in the Trinity League over time. Will it do like MIAA and others or continue on this path of an arms race ending in self destruction in the name of some fake national glory or will they go back to their stated mission as a school and league?

This is exactly what brought down the most dominant program in Colorado history. A catholic school able to attract kids from the entire Denver metropolitan area, with an extremely well-connected coach who parents wanted their athlete children to be associated with, until stories of bullying and preferential treatment by and toward football players began to consistently arise. Then parents began to realize the football team was not comprised of anywhere close to the percentage of catholic kids as compared to the rest of the student body. The kids were there to play football.

Catholic school, not constrained by student geographical boundaries public schools had to abide by, became synonomous with football dominance rather than academic college-prep and adolescent development, enjoyed a good run of unparalleled success on the field. Then the rest of the parents and the administration came forward and said there were many more important principles they wanted to be known for than the success of a football team.
