Amid election fraud investigation, NC removes Mark Meadows from voter rolls

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Mark Meadows has been removed from North Carolina's voter rolls, a move made as the State Bureau of Investigation continues a probe into allegations the former White House chief of staff committed election fraud.

Macon County Board of Elections Director Melanie Thibault confirmed April 12 that she had removed Meadows the prior day from the county's active voter list. Thibault said she consulted N.C. Board of Elections staff in Raleigh after finding records that Meadows was registered both in Virginia and North Carolina.

"What I found was that he was also registered in the state of Virginia. And he voted in a 2021 election. The last election he voted in Macon County was in 2020," she said.

The state law under which he was removed was General Statute 163-57, which says, "if a person goes into another state, county, municipality, precinct, ward, or other election district, or into the District of Columbia, and while there exercises the right of a citizen by voting in an election, that person shall be considered to have lost residence in that State, county, municipality, precinct, ward, or other election district from which that person removed."

  • Trump addressed Bill Barr's refusal to back his election fraud "Big Lie" in 2020.

  • He told Fox News he advised Barr to pursue them and get impeached as it'd boost his poll ratings.

  • Barr in a recent book detailed Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

Former President Donald Trump said that he urged Bill Barr to get impeached in pursuit of election fraud conspiracy theories because it'd be good for the former attorney general's ratings.

In an interview on Fox News host Sean Hannity's show Wednesday, Trump addressed Barr's refusal to pursue bogus claims whipped up by the former president and his allies that he had been deprived of victory in the 2020 presidential election as a result of a vast plot by Democrats.

The former president said that his former attorney general had not pursued the claims because he was afraid of getting impeached, whereas Barr has said multiple times he didn't pursue them because they weren't true.

"Look, we also had a chance, but Bill Barr, the attorney general, didn't want to be impeached," Trump said.

Trump went on to criticize a "crummy" book Barr recently published, in which he said Trump "went off the rails" after the 2020 election in pursuit of the false election fraud claims.

"I said: 'Look, get impeached. I went up a lot in the polls when I got impeached. You have to get impeached, maybe.' But he was so afraid of being impeached that he refused to do his job," said Trump on Fox.

When he was attempting to get Barr to help in his bid to overturn the 2020 election, Trump had already been impeached once, over his attempts to pressure Ukraine to help him smear Joe Biden. During the impeachment hearings, Trump's approval ratings increased from 34% to 42% among independents, according to a Gallup poll.

However attempts to overturn the election led supporters to attack the Capitol and resulted in Trump's second impeachment, and he left office with the lowest poll ratings on record.

Barr, who had been regarded as one of Trump's most loyal officials, on December 1 2020 had told the Associated Press that the Justice Department had found no evidence of widespread election fraud.

Upset that his one-time buddy Piers Morgan pressed him on his 2020 election lies interview, former President Donald Trump stormed out of a pre-taped interview in a huff as he shouted “turn the cameras off.”

In a conversation, set to air on April 25 on his new Fox Nation show Piers Morgan Uncensored, the first-ever Celebrity Apprentice winner repeatedly questioned the twice-impeached ex-president over his baseless claims that he only lost the 2020 presidential election because of widespread voter fraud.

Trump insulted Morgan in response, calling him a “fool” and adding that he was “more honest” than the British tabloid veteran.

“I think I’m a very honest man,” Trump asserted at one point in a preview clip released on Wednesday.

Furthermore, when Morgan told him that the 2020 election was “free and fair,” the disgraced ex-president grumbled: “Only a fool would say that.” Eventually, Morgan noted that after more than a year the former president and his supporters still “haven’t produced the hard evidence” to back their wild election claims, only for Trump to toss some more choice insults his way.

Trump releases audio that appears to refute claim he walked out of interview over 2020 questions

WASHINGTON — An audio recording obtained by NBC News appears to show that former President Donald Trump’s highly publicized interview with Piers Morgan did not end with Trump storming off the set, as edited promotional video clips suggest.

Instead, according to the recording, which was provided by Trump's spokesman, the two men thanked each other and laughed at the conclusion of the interview for Talk TV, a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.

..."Piers got caught red-handed," Trump said in a statement Thursday, "and the interview that I rather enjoyed doing is now in shambles."

Budowich alleged that the show's producers deceptively edited the video by splicing the sound of Trump saying "turn the camera off" to make it falsely appear as if he made the statement while he was rising in anger.

McCarthy said he would urge Trump to resign after Jan. 6, new audio reveals

Just days after the Jan. 6 riot, House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy told a fellow Republican lawmaker that he would recommend to then-President Donald Trump that he resign, according to audio of a call shared with MSNBC and aired Thursday night.

In the Jan. 10, 2021, call, McCarthy can be heard telling Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., that he planned to tell the president he should step down following the violent attack on the Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters.

McCarthy, R-Calif., also indicated that he thought impeachment would succeed in the House and possibly the Senate.

“The only discussion I would have with him is that I think this will pass, and it would be my recommendation you should resign,” McCarthy said in audio that aired on "The Rachel Maddow Show."

The New York Times on Thursday reported the contents of the call, which is included in the coming book “This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future,” by Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns, due out May 3.

McCarthy denied the Times report, calling it "totally false and wrong" in a statement on Twitter.

He got caught in blatant lie....but Republicans don't care about lies..they eat them for breakfast....😪

  • The Trump campaign has been instructed to pay Omarosa Manigault Newman more than $1.3 million in legal fees.

  • The attorneys fees and costs come after a judge struck down a 2018 lawsuit against Manigault Newman.

  • Trump's team alleged in 2018 that the ex-aide's memoir "Unhinged" violated an NDA.

Omarosa Manigault Newman, an ex-Donald Trump aide turned Trump critic, was awarded more than $1.3 million for legal fees and costs stemming from a 2018 lawsuit former President Trump launched against her.

The American Arbitration Association handed down the judgment on Tuesday.

The Trump campaign sued Manigault Newman in 2018, alleging that her 368-page exposé — "Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the Trump White House" — amounted to the ex-aide breaking her non-disclosure agreement.

A New York judge held former President Donald Trump in contempt of court Monday over his refusal to turn over documents in an ongoing investigation conducted by New York Attorney General Letitia James into whether Trump fraudulently reported the value of real estate holdings in financial statements.

State Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron ruled Trump must pay a fine of $10,000 per day until he complies with a subpoena for business records in the investigation.

“Mr. Trump: I know you take your business seriously, and I take mine seriously,” Engoron said Monday when handing down the fine, although Trump was not present.

Trump's lawyer in the case, Alina Habba, said she would appeal the judge's ruling and has asserted that the Trump Organization was not in possession of the documents being sought by the attorney general.

James, whose investigation centers on whether the Trump Organization misstated the real estate values of skyscrapers and golf courses to obtain better loan and insurance terms, had asked the judge to impose the fine. As part of her investigation, James is also seeking to interview two of the former president's children, Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. In March, Engoron sided with James, ruling that Trump's children could be deposed in the investigation. Trump's lawyers have also appealed that decision.

James said that her office had requested documents from the Trump Organization on multiple occasions only to be stonewalled. The court had set a March 31 deadline for the Trump Organization to hand over more documents, and Trump's lawyers agreed but the date that came and went. That prompted James' office to seek a contempt ruling from the judge.

“Instead of obeying a court order, Mr. Trump is trying to evade it. We are seeking the court’s immediate intervention because no one is above the law,” James said on April 7.

Engoron viewed Habba's assertion that Trump was not in possession of the requested documents skeptically, noting that such assurances were not legally binding.

"I feel like there's an 800-pound gorilla in the room, and that is, why don't we have an affidavit from him?" Engoron asked last month, adding, "There is a difference between saying something and saying something under oath."

Last week, Trump railed against James in a written statement.

“With the horrible Subway Shootings and Violent Crime in New York being at an all-time high, where people are afraid to walk the streets, the racist and highly partisan Attorney General of New York State, failed Gubernatorial candidate Letitia James, should focus her efforts on saving the State of New York and ending its reputation as a Crime Capital of the World, instead of spending millions of dollars and utilizing a large portion of her office in going after Donald J. Trump and the Trump Organization (for many years!), who have probably done more for New York than virtually any other person or group, including employing many wonderful people and paying millions and millions of dollars in taxes,” the former president said.

Trump is also under investigation by the Manhattan district attorney over fraudulent business practices. The former president has stated that both investigations are politically motivated.
