5 Dimes betting site story

A lot of people on this site used to view the 5dimes website because they had betting lines on high school football games. They were pretty accurate with their picks. And to my knowledge it was the only site that had HSFB. Their website disappeared a couple years ago and I was curious as to what happened. I found this interesting article about the owner of the site and how he was kidnapped and held for ransom in bitcoin.

Pretty wild story. A lot of the reason why I keep my feet planted on Anerican soil.

I was never able to use any of the betting sites because Georgia doesn't allow gambling. Twice I've deposited money on sites like that and gotten ripped off because I wasn't allowed to olace a bet and then they never refunded my deposit.

Yeah I kind of feel bad for the guy. He must have known that there would have been some type of repercussion for hosting an off shore betting site. Maybe he could have hired a bodyguard?

Damn sorry to hear that.

Weird. Texas doesn't allow gambling either and I've never had a problem.

There’s a glitzy aspect to gambling and all that it brings in terms of fame and fortune.  Then there’s and the oft sad flip side. This guy unfortunately got to experience both.

Georgia sucks in this regard. You can’t place an online bet if your IP address shows GA as your location. I’ve been wondering if a VPN Vanish type product would get me around that. Anyone got experience with that?

It will,  but the physical address you use can't be in a state that's not allowed per site rules

Thanks for sharing.  I recall the story, but didn’t realize corrupt cops were involved.

Initially, I had an issue with betting on HS football and didn’t partake for a season.  Then the lines for games the following season (especially the early season games) were just too nice to pass up.  Eventually my gains started dropping a little bit and I bet on other sports, which was pretty cool.  One day I just decided to stop gambling and close the account and trying to close the account was a major pita.  I ended up taking bitcoin as payment and then sold it and bought a crypto fund.
