I don’t know so much about the history of college teams but as far as who I have gotten to watch, I could maybe put them in my top 10. The Clemson and Alabama teams of the last couple of years are some of the best teams I’ve watched, I would say, so they would be at the top.

Screw Clemson...

Alabama 1992, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020. LSU 2011, 2019 Florida 1995, 1996, 2008 Are all better. Great teams don't get blown out in the SEC title game. Maybe the best Georgia of all time. Great but not an elite all time defense. They gave up 421 passing in the SEC title game.

They gave up 421 passing in the SEC title game. If they were playing in the SEC in 2011 that wouldn't have happened . The SEC at that time didn't have a team with a Dual threat QB and elite WRs(Alabama). 2021 Georgia faced much better offenses
Frosty4024
Top 20? Thier offense wasn't the greatest due to injuries. Had Bama not had to depend on slot receivers as thier #1 and #2...who knows how that game ends up.

They were just fucking violent. 1992 was as well, but there’s never been a defense as mean as the 2011 Alabama defense. 2015 defense was great too. I use to train with a powerlifter who did 520 raw on bench press at a meet. He helped train some of our guys on defense before the 2015 season and said there were some total freaks on that team. RedZone
2021 Georgia and Stetson Bennett would have had a hard time scoring on 2003 LSU. LSU shut down Oklahoma and Heisman Trophy winner Jason White. LSU held the high flying Sooner to 152 yards of total offense. LSU beat up on Jason White who was 13/37 102 yds 0 TD 2 INT 6 Sacks ason White Oklahoma 13 37 35.1 102 2.8 0.3 0 2 47.
steeler01
2021 Georgia's defense is as good as any of the above ones mentioned. Probably better, if you go off of talent. 2015/2016 Alabama's defense was just as good but they faced better offenses. 2015/2016 Clemson scorch the 2011 Alabama defense that wasn't built to rush a passer

There was rarely, if ever, so much talent concentrated at the top.

Copeland and Curry are better defensive ends than any on Saban era teams. I'll take the 1992 IMO. Holding that Miami team to no offensive tds is unbeatable. Both defensive ends were 1st team all Americans. They went 13-0 played more snaps vs 1st string offense than any SEC team in history. I'm taking Allen(NFL 1st rounder still in the NFL), Hand( NFL 4th rounder still in the NFL) , Payne(1st rounder still in the NFL), Reed( 2nd rounder still in the NFL), Robinson(2nd rounder still in the NFL), and Tomlinson(2nd rounder still in the NFL) That is probably the most talented defensive line in the history of college football. These guys didn't just play good in college, but are able to compete at the highest level. This is their 1s and 2s that year
