Why are PGA tour players so angry about LIV?

Players like McElroy and Thomas do nothing but rant about it.  The LIV players do not seem very angry - they haven’t welcomed their suspensions, but they are not fretting them much.  But the PGA players are all hot and bothered.  Why?  The PGA tournaments will be easier, positive changes coming to the PGA tour etc.  Why cannot they just accept it without continuing to trash the rebels?  It is bizarre.

ELITISM

That American Exceptionalism

Nothing can or should rival America.

All American professional teams declare themselves "World Champions" for winning their respective sports.

Are They?

8 PGA Tour events with purse increases:

  • Sentry Tournament of Champions: $15 million (up from $8.2 million)
  • The Genesis Invitational: $20 million (up from $12 million)
  • Arnold Palmer Invitational: $20 million (up from $12 million)
  • THE PLAYERS Championship: $25 million (up from $20 million)
  • WGC – Dell Technologies Match Play: $20 million (up from $12 million)
  • Memorial Tournament: $20 million (up from $12 million)
  • FEDEX St. Jude Championship: $20 million (up from $15 million)
  • BMW Championship: $20 million (up from $15 million)

This isn't just a coincidence. Why has the "tour" decided at this time to raise purses ? It's obvious, and it's called COMPETITION. Any golfer that thinks the new tour is bad for the players future earnings is foolishly mistaken. Regardless even if it folds in a year or two purses will be that much higher anyway.

I've always had a problem with that. The "4 Majors of golf" being one of them. Why is a PGA Championship Win bigger than the Players Title at Ponte Vedra (FL) or any of the other Fed X Cup championships ? All the big events have the same top players. Germany, Japan, Australia, don't have top courses where greens can be cut super short and off fairway glass left uncut for a month ?  At least in tennis the Majors are world events, US Open (New York), Wimbledon (London), French Open (Paris), Australian Open (Melbourne).

None of the 4 majors is a PGA Tour event. They are run by independent organizations. The Players however is a PGA Tour event and can be considered a 5th major but not officially. Events like the US Open run by USGA purposely make the courses harder, higher roughs, tougher greens, narrower fairways, harder pin placements.

The PGA and the PGA Tour are different things. The PGA of America (runs the PGA Championships) is an organization for club professionals. The PGA Tour is for tour pros and tournament golf. You will see local club professionals playing in the PGA Championships with the PGA Tour guys which I always find interesting.
