Unless there was a concern specific to athletes then it is unlikely there were studies targeted to show the difference between athletes and non- athletes. To some extent you are right. You wouldn’t need the NEJM to mine data that consisted of athletic participation hours and athletes collapsing, and compare the datasets for those who have had the vaccine, and those who haven’t. If, however the rate was significantly higher in vaccinated individuals, then perhaps additional studies would be warranted. For the record, it seems to me as though high profile cases such as athletes might be used to hype the negative vaccine effect. The chief link to heart failure due to the vaccines is presumably through reported increases in the rate of myocarditis. Myocarditis is not all that well understood and often isn’t diagnosed until after a significant health event. It has been associated both with viral infection and autoimmune causes. I remember while living in Missouri and riverboat gambling was exploding a resolution was put forth to the voters that stated nobody on the 13 member gaming commission could have ties to the gaming companies. Immediately after it went into effect, the entire gaming commission had to resign. You would have thought that was addressed in advance. More recently when the 12 member panel from the NIH that recommended Covid treatments for FDA, something like 9 of the 12 had to disclose financial ties to Gilead (the producer of Remdesvir).
