Would be interesting to know specifically who was responsible for negotiating the deal with the Saudi’s.

No matter the circumstances though, if the state of AZ really wants it stopped, I’m sure they could find a way.

Charles Richard Crane (info below) hired Karl Twitchell (info in above link) to research and help build relations ($$) between US and SA.
Good historical read above.

With that history backdrop, looks like the contract agreement re: my original post was in 2015.  Doocey was Gov (rep) and he hired Lisa Atkins to head the state land dept in 2015.

Hmmm, long and interesting history.  I won’t be surprised if the aquifers end up fully drained.  One of my daughters is getting her masters at UCSB with a focus on water conservation practices.  She’s never mentioned the AZ Saudi situation, but as important as fresh water shortages are, seems like there’s a lot of things that go on that don’t make sense.  It usually comes down to who has the money.

GL to your daughter.
I seem to recall seeing mention of other private contracts within the state also causing adverse effects… basically confirming/validating your last few sentences.

Arizona republicans at work. There's a new official that guaranteed he would stop this but we will see how that goes.

The good news is that both sides of the aisle want this resolved and obviously future contracts (if any) will need to be analyzed more in AZ favor and less in SA.
