Wow......this demonstrates how the workings of the mind can differ to such a large degree over the same subject. Ideas diverge from the onset due the the thought process of the individual.

One allows his mind to accept the worst case scenario and the other maintains a thought of security. What makes the biggest difference? The idea's at the onset that took adversarial paths.

You see a weakness exploited. I see a defense that is smarter than given credit for. This particular situation was part of my job. I can speak on the subject with confidence.

How do they know? 

Tell them explain how they know it did. Are they capable of reading what it captured from the bottom of the ocean?

Maybe they can do that or read what it sent back to China from the China shores or maybe they can jam the signal when the ballon was detected.

I know we knew it was there no matter what they tell the public. I have been there as a military Intel analyst. There is no way NORAD , as well as other national defense entities, were not on top of this.
