The first ratings of the season were released. They should be volatile for a while, especially when they correct the inaccurate scores 🙄

Springfield Central is #1 in D1 for now, but with some very weak teams on their remaining schedule they will probably slide. Whereas CM should move up in D2 once they get into conference play.

Taunton put up a great fight vs. KP. Program has come a long way.

Brockton looked good. Boxers smoked Natick, 52-17. That's the biggest number someone has put up on Natick in a long time.

CM is legit. Speed everywhere. Mauling OL. They handled Bishop Hendricken, 48-6.

Andover stunned Central Catholic, 30-29. This is Andover's best team in a few years now. Central is a little inconsistent.

CM up to #4 in the Division 2 rankings but not sure how much they can improve their rating with low-rated Malden Catholic as one of their remaining opponents. They may be able to slide into the #3 spot since Peabody has two rating-killer opponents left, but if they stay #4 there's going to be a very unhappy #1 seed.

Western Mass realigns the leagues every couple years and basically stuffs the weakest programs into the same league, so this is the result. I have sympathy for the idea that a team shouldn't be drawing dead at the start of the season, but less sympathy when that team had two open dates. Some of the other teams that missed the playoffs with strong records last year upgraded their schedules and are seeing rewards.

Quick recap...

— Springfield Central smoked Xaverian, 56-22. One of the most impressive wins of the season. Central just might be the real best team in the state.

— Catholic Memorial battled Chelmsford to a 28-7 win. CM is scuffling a little.

— Milford is CM's next opponent and the Scarlet Hawks are very good. A well-rounded, physical group.

— Georgia commit Joenel Aguero and St. John's Prep are rolling. They get Central Catholic next week in a good rivalry game.

— Bishop Feehan is on fire right now. After starting 0-3, the Shamrocks keep winning, and face a good King Philip team next.

What is the deal with CM? Central is way more impressive.

The other big story was #8 seed Methuen upending #1 Franklin 28-24. QB fumbled a snap, picked it up and ran it in with eight second left.  Nice to see an outsider team break through since the perception seems to be that only a small number of schools can ever compete for a title in D1. Can't remember Methuen being a power in any boys sport in the past.

Everett found several creative ways to not score against Central Catholic, the game was much closer than the final score indicated. St. John's is probably the more interesting opponent for Springfield Central in the Super Bowl.
