King Philip beats L-S, 10-7, to win Division 2. That's 25 wins in a row. Program was middle of the road in the Hockomock League for a long time. Then Brian Lee, son of legendary Walpole coach John Lee, took over and basically made KP the best program in one of the best leagues in the state. They don't have the biggest, strongest, fastest kids, but they play great defense, run the ball well, and don't make mistakes. Kind of like a "Massachusetts Bingham."

Would have liked to see Everett vs some other top squads, just out of curiosity. Anyone around here you would reasonably compare them to?

It’s hard to say. This is their best team since 2002. Easily their most talented if you want to go by offers. Out of their entire roster, you probably have around 12-15 (conservatively) playing football for free at the next level. Their offensive line has at least two scholarship kids and the left tackle imo is good enough to play early on a Power 5 team. Their running backs are more big, power guys than the speedy, shifty types, but they will use those types of guys in other packages. Their quarterback is accurate, smart, tough and mobile. He’s not huge (6-1 185?) but he runs their offense well and completed over 70 percent of his passes this season. He’s a junior and holds a 1aa offer already. Their receivers are all 1a, 1aa or d2 offered. Their tight end is big and has good hands but is probably a DT at the next level.

As far as their scheme, ‘multiple’ doesn’t really do it justice. They do a little bit of everything. Their jet series and play action off it is probably what would be most difficult to defend against a defense that can match their speed/size/athleticism.

Their defense had a lot of talent but did not play as well as some of their past teams. They have five kids in their secondary will be scholarship players. Three already have ACC and up offers, including a junior safety who is a top 100 kid with offers from everyone. Their linebackers are all scholarship kids. Their DL is big. Their team speed is good.

That said, the defense wasn’t as good as all those platitudes add up to.

To be honest, I think they might have just been bored in some of these games. Most of them were over at halftime. Xaverian played them (kinda) tough but the outcome was never truly in doubt.

As far as who they could compete with, it’s kind of hard to say. I mean, I look at certain teams that are highly ranked in every poll and think Everett could certainly match up. Others, not so much.

I’d like to see them play Stepinac or really anyone from the Northeast. The teams that can match their speed would give them the most trouble, basically because they don’t really see it that often.

GSB and I tried to hook them up with a top end Cali squad but the $$$ for a cross country flight, hotel, etc made that impossible.

They will be good again next year. Their offense should be fine but the defense has to replace a lot. They’ll likely be the best team in New England again. Hopefully they can find someone at their weight class from another state to get a better handle of just what that is, but we won’t really know until that happens.

Hope that answers your question.

All right, let's wrap up the season...

Statewide Top 5 (NEPSAC included)

1. Everett (11-0) — Wire-to-wire top team in the state. College coaches flooding in from everywhere to check them out right now.

2. Lawrence Academy (9-0) — Brings back most of its skill for next year but has to replace a lot up front.

3. Central Catholic (10-1) — Loses a ton and most other years is your D1 champ.

4. St. John's (S) (13-0) — Their offense was lightning fast and their QB excellent. Defense left a little to be desired, but they'll be one of the better teams in the state again next season.

5. King Philip (12-0) — Tough to drop D-Y out of this spot, but KP has a 25-game winning streak and had a tougher road through the playoffs. They lose some key players, but they'll just reload.
