The east coast is going through what the west coast has goes through couple years ago.  Most summers here have at least a little smoke from some fire either in Canada/Washington/Oregon/Cal.  Some years it is really bad like it is for those on east coast now but last year and so far this year it hasn't been bad...yet.

Good luck and stay safe.  That shit is really bad for lungs and filter as much as you can.

This seems like a yearly occurrence these days.

Ya but when west has these fires the smoke is from same state or right over, this shit is literally reaching Delaware Va from Canada, like @I AM IRONMAN said must be some fire for smoke to reach that far south

How many times did you have to evacuate?  2-3?  You still in Arizona, right?

I only evacuated once. Honestly I’d stay behind if it ever happened again. My house would likely not burn down from direct fire, it is surrounded by alot of asphalt and has some buffers. It would likely be embers that are blown and start a fire and if it’s unattended be a issue. My buddy didn’t evacuate stayed behind and some embers got blown to his back fence, started to smolder and started his fence on fire. He was there with a hose put it out. Had he left probably better likelihood of that fence going up and then his house and others going up as well.

Splitting time between California and Arizona. Arizona is my “primary” residence.

Nah, a few years ago fires in Nevada blew back towards the coast due to off shore winds and we got some. Same with Oregon and Arizona fires.

Most of the time the winds are blowing from west to east, so it goes from California and pushes eastward or maybe northeast or southeast. California gets its wildfires when you have an offshore wind blowing from the east to the west back towards the ocean. The Santa Anna winds in Southern California and the Diablo‘s winds in Northern California. 95% we get that marine push from the west (Ocean). That’s generally why when we get heat waves they only last for a couple days cause you get that marine layer low pressure that comes in and acts like AC and cools shit down and pushes that on shore breeze back to the east.

How did a fire that size not take out ur block

Hit the valley floor and winds slowed down. Also, the firefighters learned that you don’t rush up to the urban landscape anymore and try tackling it head on. After 2017 when it literally blew over firefighters by a mile, they kind of learned that.

So basically, they made a stand where housing started and put a lot of resources right there as a fire came down the hill. But they also held back units like a half mile, a mile and a few miles back in case spotting embers flew over them and ignited residences, which didn’t happen. And had it happened they would’ve been pretty prepared for it. There’s been two major fires since the 2017 Tubbs fire and they’ve employed this strategy twice now, and it seems to work pretty well. Of course it ultimately depends on the winds and mother nature.

No.  We have already got some of the smoke from the fire in Alberta.  Same fire making the east coast smoky.  Up in the PNW the smoke usually comes from elsewhere.  One summer we got it from Canada and California.  Probably Oregon too.  Lol

One thing that was necessary was wearing a mask because the particles floating around will do damage to you.  From the pictures it looks like you all should use one.  I know being outside when it is like that I felt it immediately and had to take precautions.

A few years ago, norcal was like what you are experiencing for 6 weeks. I remember how weeks of games were canceled. No practices etc. Before all the hysteria of covid though, thank God . By the way, are pot dispensaries legal in NJ  ?

Talked to my homie in The Bronx and he was telling me his job told them to stay home...

The air quality had hit 454 at one point...

He went outside outta curiosity and he said it felt like he was smoking a whole pack of cigs at once everytime he took a breath
