So Pretoria Fields has a new brewmaster who is a friend of mine, and she's been into some pretty crazy concoctions. For the most part she is tinkering around and just adding things to either the Walkers Station stout or one of the regular gose. The beer she broke out for me the other night is based from the original gose but she literally took a half keg, then pureed three key lime pies. Crust, cream and all. Mixed them together and then let it age for some length of time. It smelled fantastic, and had a clear pie flavor but some bitter bite at the end that maybe needs something added to balance. Any idea if thats how some of those you post are made? I'm not sure what I think about this stuff yet. Ill be honest, I dont know the ins and outs of the brewing process, but I do know that I've seen Facebook and instagram posts from Listermann where they are literally dumping loads of candy, cakes, gummies, etc, into their vats. Tbh it seems hard to get really right and its the difference between decent beers and great beers. Ive been to so many breweries in Cincinnati recently and most have at least an attempt or 2 at some of the crazy pastry/dessert stouts or milkshake IPA's and most of them just aren't that great or taste like they are missing something that leaves it tasting just like a regular stout or IPA.......but then theres breweries like Listermann, Streetside, Brink, Sonder, and Third Eye that release a couple new beers every weekend, and they are usually inventive and top notch most every time. OozleFinch brewery in Virginia? Is a brewery with all women brewers, and they have some of the craziest fruity concoctions, but they are delicious...almost like smoothies. Ask your brewer if she's heard of them. 1

HawgGoneIt
Did the SandlotJax Fitness Festival today. Crazy but very fun. Did the technical run on the Savage Race obstacle course which was basically a ninja warrior type thing. Very difficult but fun. Then did a couple of Rucks one of which they clearly created because they knew we were coming. The GoRuck Ale Trail Scavenger Hunt. Basically 7 breweries over a roughly 10 mile hike. Didn't have to drink at each just get a pic at a specific spot in each one. Of course we definitely weren't going to breweries without drinking. Hahaha All of that to earn a patch. Idk who woulda ever thunk that a fitness festival and 10 mile hike would be fun, but, it was a friggen blast. Highly recommend the GoRuck and Savage Race events. Go Ruck for basically any ability level. You just have to pick and choose what you think you can handle, or want to attempt. Cheers drinking buds! 1

Ive wanted to do the spartan/savage races, but Ive never wanted to pay like $100 to do them. Also, the brewery hike sounds perfect. In Cincy, I did a beer run 5k where breweries had beer stations alongside water stations......As it was billed as a run 5k, most people were running, stopping, drinking, then running again, etc... As you can imagine, it wasn't very fun. Running and drinking aren't the best combination. But walking or hiking between breweries is way better. You can do that very easily in Asheville and hit like 10 breweries in no time.

You go to a start point/tent and look through all the various opportunities and then plan out what you have time to do, which boils down to understanding the ability levels of everyone on your team, or, your own if you are a lone competitior. The Ale Trail Scav had only specific rules. Take a team photo in the start area and then redo the team photo in very specific spots at the breweries and a final pic at a specific statue at the end. No time limit except you had to return to the Go Ruck tent before 7:30 pm on the same day you start the ruck. We started the hike at 2:30 pm and finished at 6, having drank and spent a little time at each spot. No rules as to the order or whatever. We called ourselves mapping it efficiently using google maps, but, our version went just over 10 miles while the organizer said it would be just under 9. Somehow we added a little over a mile to it, but, whatever. This festival costed 100 dollars to enter and we had several world records we could attempt to break in both endurance and strength areas as many times as we wanted to attempt them and the Savage Race course could be attempted as many times as you wanted also. Twice was once too many on the Savage. Hahaha. Thought about @ChimpGrip while testing my ability on the Rogue anvil grip world record. The record is 240.9 lbs. I could barely get 100. https://m.facebook.com/roguefitness/videos/brian-shaw-lifts-2409-lbs-on-the-rogue-anvil-rogue-record-breaker-online-qualifi/205757200566638/#:~:text=Brian Shaw lifts 240.9 LBS (109.27 KG) on the Rogue,Put it to the test. I'm feeling it today, but, would do it all again 10 out of 10 times. If you get an opportunity nearby to do an event like that, I say go for it. You only die once. Glad you got to get a taste of grip! I have never lifted the anvil but when I do, I will post here first! Still though, super cool you got to do that! The Rogue team was surprised at my ability for my first attempt. It was the first time all day they had to add weight to the anvil. I probably could have lifted more had I attempted the lift before doing chin ups at the Marine Corps challenge and having ran the Savage race technical course once already also. All of those are grip oriented so I had used up some of what I had before making any attempts at the anvil. Not saying I could compete for the record, but, I believe I could get more than 100 lbs. Looks like the record was a lift with his right hand. The rogue team wanted us to attempt both hands. Surprisingly my left hand was stronger at the anvil than my right. Im right handed so I don't understand that, unless it had something to do with all the other activities I had already done. Rest assured I will make some more attempts at that. Gonna ask the gym to order an anvil so I can train some for that.

Or you just say fuck it if the day ends with a “y” then your drinking In Germany they don't even consider beer as alcohol and the legal age to consume is 16. Anyway... I honestly don't drink every day. It depends on my training schedule. Hahaha. Saturday was a big festival partially sponsored by Yuengling, so, there was even a chug contest. I won a 30 dollar GoRuck baseball cap for winning my heat. The hiking list included an opportunity to hike through downtown Jacksonville and hit several breweries, so, being that my team members all love breweries and beer, we had to do that hike. Got to see a side of Jacksonville that most will never see as well. Stuff you only see by walking through all those neighborhoods. I've been working on a summer cut so honestly limiting drinking considerably. Had more than a couple on Saturday, but, also burned a shit ton of calories, so, no harm no foul. May drink a couple one day per week otherwise. Call it my cheat day. Once the summer is here and I've reached my BMI goal, I may turn up. We'll see. 🤪
