The Florida and Georgia champions should play against each other.

These would be my matchups based on who I think is gonna win it all

STA vs 7A champion

Chaminade vs 6A champion

Venice vs 5A champion

Norland vs 4A champion

Cocoa vs 3A champion

A FL 8 team open like Arizona would be my first unicorn dream, followed by yours.  :)

I like it and probably easier to finalize than a FL open state title format.  Switch state venues annually.

I feel like Florida may be a little better than GA at the top this year...

The teams that should be winning aren't....

Walton vs STA might be good though

But the only 6A team I trust to even stay in the field with Chaminade are Thomasville Central and Douglas County...

DC has been quietly taking down some big shots in 6A....

5A may be a little more balanced... Coffee,Cartersville and Creekside are all  looking like the teams they should have been last year.

4A Benedictine is probably more disciplined and hard nosed than Norland for sure but depth will probably play a factor in this one ...

3A... Is looking like our 3A state champ is gonna be a mistake either way...

CG is not all that this year... Sandy Creek got complacent and got beat by a team that had no business making this deep a run...

How would decide who goes to the open? Also that would make all the other brackets meaningless like California

CG played a brutal schedule. They probably play the most top competition in Georgia. Teams there can learn from that tough mentality

Florida would always have an advantage because our brackets are so watered down. Georgia has most of their top teams in 7A.

Similar to Zona, but largest classes only like in Zona don’t apply in FL  (Chaminade Madonna example).

Would have to be adjusted in FL without class size mattering or use a CalPreps type rating service like for playoffs and/or throw in perhaps a group of sportswriters throughout FL to vote.

A Saguaro vs Red Mountain 6A final would be the scenario type game for non top 8 in FL having a playoff draw.  Perhaps a Venice or Lakeland type school takes this type of format route like a Saguaro in 2023 as a unicorn open FL state playoff title bracket and other playoffs bracket draws with less clout below the Open division marquee state playoffs draw.

They are meaningless already because nobody knows who the best team in your state is.Isn’t that what playoffs are for? To see who is the best

That is true but most of our top teams all play in the regular season. They aren’t afraid to play like most of Cali is against SJB and MD. These teams are turning into Bishop Gorman in regards to no one in state wanting to play them.

Norland, Miami Central, American Heritage and Cardinal Gibbons are all in the same playoff bracket. So we got at least one good one

Even more reason for Florida to have an Open. With so many good teams there’s no telling who’s the best regardless of regular season outcomes.Clearly Florida has an advantage over California in this regard since we know from day one who our best teams are.

There’s very little mystery in Florida. You need a round robin tournament between Saint Thomas, Chaminade Madonna, IMG, and a play in game between Norland and cocoa. That would take care of it.

If they go to an open class, those teams may be playing each other anyway in a playoff except for IMG. This is probably what would be best for the state. Have regular high school football playoffs and then the recruited super teams in the open bracket.

I’m not opposed to an open bracket but how do you decide the teams eligible?

Why would you be apart of some crappy district only to move on to a completely different bracket than the class you are in?

Calpreps and pencil neck sports writers have already been proven time and time again to be incompetent.

How exactly does California and Arizona determine eligible open participants?

No…. Apparently the Sponsors have pulled out so no game….

Bozo was trumpeting a game on Dec 18th that he was putting together with BG vs IMG for $10k to the winner plus his fake trophy, but that seems to have fallen apart as well…..

I said 2 years ago the Geico would be history in a couple years.....right @Atticus Finch

No one cares.

As I tried to explain above in thread, Zona uses ONLY top classes to determine Open 8, which wouldn’t work for FL (Chaminade Madonna).

Funny though the 10x 9x 8 x mentions remind me of my 10-15 min power rating formula creation. :)

Man, time is zooming right by. I guess a lot of people that post here are out of high school now. 😭😂😭

Believe I said something a little more recent than that though. But I really don't want to look for it because it doesn't change the fact.

Why does everything have to be forever? It could have just ran its course. Geico and any other sponsor may just wanted to move on to something different to put money into. It lasted almost a decade with different sponsors, and gave us some great games over the years. Some people are never happy and just want to bitch about something

If the Ratings were there it would have stuck around…. The reality is that the majority of sports fans don’t care at all about HSFB other then the Schools where their kids play…..

Even HS Kids don’t care about National games, so no one is watching those games…. Those of us that Follow these boards and watch these games are really a select few…. I would guess that There are maybe 5k to 10k of us in the whole country….

Thats not enough fans to make these events viable….. The National TV interest Started with DLS when they had The Streak and people wanted to see if these OOS teams could break it….

In Nor Cal it’s been like 5 years since we had any games on TV other then the SBG’s….. So Cal has slowed on the games as well….

There is just not the Appetite for HSFB on TV, No one really cares that much…. But I am sure that in states like TX and GA the regional ratings for HSFB do ok….

And it's not even confirmed to be done. It has taken one year hiatuses before. They have events in several other sports. It's very likely that football will be back in the future.
