McKINNEY -- McKinney running back Matt Gadek ran for 599 yards to break the UIL 11-man state record for most rushing yards in a game Thursday night in a 63-50 win against Plano East at Ron Poe Stadium. Gadek, a senior listed at 5-10 and 175 pounds, broke the record of 587 yards that Somerville's Daryl Ellis set against Thrall in 1998. Live statistics kept by The Dallas Morning News at the game originally had Gadek breaking the record with 48 carries for 592 yards. McKinney coach Jeff Smith said Friday that his coaching staff had reviewed the game film and that Gadek officially finished with 49 carries for 599 yards. See full highlights Sat at 5pm ch5. @DMNGregRiddle@McKISDAth 8:38 AM - Oct 20, 2017 Gadek's previous season high was 284 yards rushing against Plano West, and Thursday's record-breaking performance came six days after he was held to 85 yards on 19 carries in a 31-14 loss to Denton Guyer. But Gadek didn't seem surprised that he had such a big game. "I knew we had a chance the whole game," Gadek said. "They couldn't stop our O-line. We just kept pounding the rock. I have the best O-line in the state. They were trying to load the box and we just ran some quick slants on them." Gadek's total will still have to be verified before it becomes an official record, and Smith said he was going to call and find out what steps needed to be taken to make that happen. State-record information is kept by Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine. Paint Rock's Tony Diaz set the state six-man single-game rushing record with 621 yards in 2010, according to Dave Campbell's. The private school state single-game rushing record is 599 yards by Rudy Rudison of Houston Marian Christian in 1978, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations record book. Marian Christian, a TAPPS school, is no longer open. The national record for most rushing yards in a game is 754 yards, set by John Giannantonio of Netcong (N.J.) in 1950, according to the NFHS record book. Gadek shattered the McKinney single-game rushing record of 415 yards set by Donta Hickson in 2000, according to the McKinney ISD athletic department. Gadek tied the single-game school record of six rushing touchdowns, also held by Hickson, who went on to play at Oklahoma. And Gadek broke Hickson's school record for career rushing yards, extending it to 4,371 yards. A 31-yard run to the Plano East 8-yard line on the next-to-last play of the game gave Gadek the UIL 11-man state record. That run on a fourth-and-1 play was his final carry of the night as McKinney improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in District 6-6A. Quarterback Damon Witmer took a knee on the final play. Gadek ran for 357 yards in the first half as McKinney built a 42-21 lead. After Plano East scored a touchdown with 3:49 remaining, Gadek began the final drive of the game still well short of the record. He carried eight times for 63 yards on the final drive to claim the state record. Earlier in the game, Gadek broke the Dallas-area single-game rushing record, surpassing the mark of 525 yards that Irving's Tyson Thompson set against Hurst L.D. Bell in 1998, according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine. Thompson played for the Dallas Cowboys from 2005 to 2007. For the season, Gadek has now run for 1,468 yards, the most by any Class 6A player in the area. He has run for 11 touchdowns and averaged 8.7 yards per carry on his 169 rushing attempts. On Thursday, McKinney scored a touchdown on every possession except when the clock ran out at the end. After McKinney took a 28-7 lead early in the second quarter on Gadek's second touchdown, Plano East (2-5, 1-3) scored on each second-half possession. "I wasn't thinking about the (357) yards at halftime," Gadek said. "I really just thought about how we needed to win. Plano East just kept on scoring, we just had to keep on pounding the rock and get it in the end zone." McKinney has a tough test next week, playing unbeaten District 6-6A leader Allen (6-0, 3-0), the No. 1-ranked team in the state. Even so, Smith had no fear of keeping Gadek in the game. He received periodic yardage updates throughout the game. "To be part of something like that is special. He's been on board the last four years for us, and we're so glad he's on our team. "Plano East did a heck of a job. They didn't give up one bit." Gadek's records overshadowed a big game by Plano East's offense, which produced 534 yards to McKinney's 713. Plano East quarterback Brandon Mallory went out for one series after his first pass was intercepted, but he returned to throw for 362 yards and two touchdowns. Trey Hunter ran for 116 yards and three scores. Jalen Anderson (131 receiving yards) and Josh Allison (121 yards) each caught a touchdown pass for Plano East. Lol its hard for me to even fathom how bad a defense has to be to give up 592 yds. I've seen awful defenses, but 592 YARDS !?!
Frosty4024
And they apparently needed all 592 yards sadly... If Aledo let their RB play for 4 quarters with 50 touches...He'd have 800 yards and 10 TDs... ...and then have parents calling the UIL lol
